my dad was in the food supply business-supplying potatoes to restaurants.
Many years ago, we had a couple of McDonalds as customers--the only McDonalds in the country that used Pepsi instead of Coke as well. Then the word came down that they all had to buy from Simplot.
Seems JR Simplot was on the board of McDonalds, ,and Ray Kroc was on the board of Simplot.
That ended our relationship with McDonalds.

Sail on JR. You were a good man, and a great Idahoan.
I have run across JR many times in my life. And every time, he did not act like a man worth a couple billion. He acted like one of us. The first time that I met him i was a liftie at a ski resort which he owns part of. He came through my lift line and asked me what I thought of the new lift. I told him that it was a poor design. The resort manager glared at me and they went up the mountain. He came back through my line the next run, and told me that I was the type of kid he liked, and if I had any problems from the manager because of my honesty to give him a call. I never had to call.
Great article.
