Greasing the skids for selling high-priced art is nothing new,
but ignoring the local ordinances or permit applications is like thumbing your nose to the law.
Obviously, the embarrasing arrest was done to send a message.

That article doesn't have all the facts. A business needs a permit to serve alcohol, even if they're not charging for it. The gallery didn't have a permit. When the police showed up the owner of the gallery told them to leave because they weren't invited guests. When they told her she would have to come to the station with them she said she would only talk to a higher ranking officer. Rich people with a sense of entitlement. If this wasn't the Hamptons it wouldn't be news.

aahhh....knowing all the facts if she broke the law then she needs to pay the consequences. and you are probably right...if it was Joe Schmoe in Masapequa it would not make the news!

From what I read in the NY papers, the police went into 3 other businesses the same night. One wasn't serving alcohol so nothing happened. The other 2 places were serving alcohol and didn't have permits. The police confiscated all the alcohol and wrote summonses. End of story. This woman thought she was above the law so she got arrested.

And that makes the whole thing different...
But why let the facts get in the way??
