Petty/Winwood summer tour kickoff

Post by MonumentBeach »

The Tom Petty/Steve Winwood summer tour started last night in Michigan. I managed to find this review from the first show. Sounds like anybody attending is in for a real treat from both artists.

http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/200 ... ng_th.html

Winwood is mixing up an hour setlist with stuff from his new album, Nine Lives, along with material from Spencer Davis, Blind Faith, Traffic, as well as his 80's solo stuff. Winwood still sounds incredible these days as anybody who has seen him lately can tell you.

As for Petty, it sounds like he is going to be digging up more rarities and lost tracks for this tour.

From what I've read, it sounds like almost the entire tour is completely sold out. I'll be attending the Boston and Mansfield shows here and will post reviews afterwards. Anybody else who attends...please post your thoughts! Enjoy!

Ha ha! So what did you think of the live Petty?

You Wreck Me is one of the favorite encore songs for the hard-core TP fans. Tom opened with that!??? ROCK ON TOM PETTY!!!

A few of those songs... Sweet William, Straight Into Darkness and Spike I'm not sure I've heard before...

But, End Of The Line, I think that comes from Tom's work with the Traveling Wilburys and George Harrison...

may George rest in peace....

I saw Petty/Winwood last night at Starlake here in Pittsburgh. FANTASTIC SHOW. You're in for a real treat. I think they're both getting better with age. TP and The Heartbreakers had a delay at Dulles airport, due to weather, and arrived at Starlake just in time to take the stage. You Wreck Me and Mary Janes Last Dance were a bit ragged ( but still very good ) because of that, but after they got in the groove, the show ROCKED !!!

Sweet William was a b side song that was never released anywhere but Germany. Tom said they always wanted to play it, so it's in this years setlist.

One of my friend's son just graduated from Berklee College of Music and she said Steve Winwood was awarded an honorary doctorate of music. I think that super.

Higher education: Steve Winwood gettin’ some lovin’ from Berklee

http://news.bostonherald.com/entertainm ... ition=also

At long last, Steve Winwood has been vindicated. A paltry 45 years after getting booted from music school for claiming “Roll Over Beethoven” was as awesome as, well, Beethoven, Winwood - who turns 60 on Monday - is getting his degree. Not from his former school in Birmingham, England, but from Berklee College of Music.

Two days after his sold-out Berklee Performance Center gig Thursday, Winwood will receive an honorary doctorate of music at Berklee’s commencement ceremony along with fellow honorees Philip Bailey and Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire; “The Lord of the Rings” composer Howard Shore; and Brazilian artist Rosa Passos.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!
