I'm avoiding reality. If I try to process it, it will be too much, so I'm avoiding the coverage....

I watched the Kennedy Center tribute replay ... I'm older than dirt and I really can't remember when Washington has come together like this ... I mean, really come together and FEEL so much ... I don't care how you feel about either James Carville or Mary Matalin, that shot of them breaking down off camera on Sunday's "Meet The Press" said it all ...
Something else has impressed me since Friday ... these pundits and politicians usually preen when they're on camera ... it's all about them and their agenda ... not one of them I've seen was focused on anything but the tragedy of losing such a wise, humble and loyal friend ... in a city full of the most ginormous egos on the planet (Hollywood has NOTHING on D.C.), I think this is most remarkable and possibly the best tribute to the essence of professional side of Tim Russert.

A good friend and I keep talking on the phone as we watch the coverage, wondering when we stop crying. I was raised on Meet The Press, and watched it any Sunday that I could, going back to Lawrence P Spivak. But with Tim we had his brilliant questionning coupled with his brilliant analysis, which, for a polical junkie like me was absolutely mesmorizing. I would watch his analysis after each primary this year, and, in the morning, before leaving for work, would catch his appearance on Morning Joe on MSNBC, so he really was "a part of my life" every day for the past 6 months.
Then you add the quality of the character of the man.
Yes, I still struggle with it.
And tonight, in closing his show, Keith Olbermann, in reviewing the day, and in talking about Luke said that 2 minutes before he (Keith) went on the air this afternoon for the hour before the memorial service, Keith felt a tug at his jacket, and someone calling his name. He turned to see Luke there, wishing him "good luck" and tellling Keith that he understood how rough this all way.
To paraphrase his dad, WHAT A KID!!!!!

It reminds me of the way I was bummed over Steve Irwin's death.

Me too....me too.

I feel the same way about this. I've cried a lot, and I thought maybe I was the only one who was so sad.
I happened to be at the gym yesterday watching the memorial and it was soooo hard for me to keep from crying. However, i did as soon as I got in the car.
I'm still amazed at the strength of Luke. He IS an amazing kid. It still hasn't really sunk in that Tim is really gone. I was also raised watching that show because my pap-pap always watched it.

A year ago we, my wife and I, had just checked into the Hampton Inn in Philly in preparation for the show the next night. We had planned to go out for dinner and a night on the town. Instead, we stayed in the room most of the night watching the coverage.
Tim you are dearly missed.

I miss him every Sunday morning ... and election night was just not the same. I would love to hear what he thinks of the world today.
