My old boss retired from the PD shortly after I did, we've done a few things socially and I STILL have a very hard time calling him anything but "Chief"....

When I grew up everyone was Mr. or Mrs.
I expect that from young ones, unless I indicate otherwise.
I don't mind Miss Penny at all. :)

To my little kids at school I was Miss Kathy...and when they got older it was Miss D or my full last name. Some of my friends' kids would call me Miss Kathy, but most just call me by my first name or a nickname, it's never bothered me.

At one of my schools I was Miss Peech (ala Miss Peach of the Kelley School comic) for years. That came about from one of my students who couldn't say his s blends so "speech" became "peech". He'd yell across campus, "Hey, Peech!" and wave madly. Needless to say, the staff got a kick out of it and it stuck. There were kids at that school who never knew my real name, and there are some folks who still refer to me that way when I run into them.

Once upon a time long, long ago I used to be a youth sports coach and called all my kids, "Tiger." That way when I saw them around town and they's yell out, "Hey Coach!" All I had to remember was, "Hi there Tiger!"   :D

at work, the title is usually dr. or professor . i get really upset when they call me mrs. cause that is my mom...

in arizona, they called me doc or dr. j. most of my science majors called me by my first name. when you taught them in 4 classes and supervised their student teaching, you get on first name bases.

some of my friends kids call me aunt jan cause i am the closest thing to a sister their mom has.

i was brought up to call my parents friends mr or mrs. and adress family members by their appropriate titles. for some reason though, my parents don't mind that some of their nieces and nephews called them without the "aunt" or "uncle".

Why do you think bartenders call everyone "Champ", "Govenor", "Chief", "Buddy", etc.

Growing up I called my parents friends by their first names-the same way my parents referred to them. My mom's sister and brother-in-law were and still are "Aunt Margie and Uncle Arnold". My dad's siblings were and still are referred to by first name-except for the matriarch (one of the older sisters) and she is referred to as "Aunt Faye". When some of my friends in college referred to family friends by using Mr. and the last name I thought it was strange. At that time I thought you only called teachers by their last names.

Our son refers to our friends as Mr. Scott or Ms. Amanda and their kids refer to us as Ms. Elissa or Mr. Scott. We both prefer this because its shows respect and closeness at the same time.

At my son's school I am referred to as Max's Mom-by his classmates and teachers, and administration!
