Re: 2008 NFL Season
I follow the Ravens, but don't lose any sleep (or money) over their W-L record. I had been a die-hard Baltimore Colts fan before the "exodus" (I still have nightmares of seeing those Mayflower moving vans pulling out of the Owings Mills complex in the early morning hours and snowing on WJZ-TV......margaritamyers wrote:any Ravens fans here?
Buddies of mine say that I shouldn't say that Indy "stole" the Colts (and I don't) because Baltimore then "stole" the Browns from Cleveland. Sports teams are simply commodities that can be moved by the mega-owners, plain and simple. Honestly, back then the Colts' ownership under Irsay was a joke and fans didn't support the pathetic team they fielded here. I do wish that we had been smart enough to retain our team name and colors like the Browns. Purple and black are not my favorite colors.....
That all said (and I know you didn't ask me.....sorry), I watch most of the Ravens games on TV, have been amazed at their sudden transition under Coach Harbaugh, can't believe how Joe Falcco has progressed in his rookie year, and wish them well against the Steelers......they're going to need it! That Titan game took its toll physically on everyone.

Re: 2008 NFL Season
I was 9 years old when the Colts left Baltimore so I didn't have much a history with them but respect it. I have a lot of old Colts stuff from my dad and grandfather. Baltimore got screwed even after getting the Browns. Indy did steal the Colts while Baltimore got an NFL team. Cleveland got to keep the name, colors, and history. I wish Indy had changed their name and everything but now it is ancient history. The Ravens have one Superbowl championship and could be adding to that soon. Baltimore has embraced the Ravens as their team and you don't hear as much complaining about the Colts. It may not be blue and white but I will wear the purple and black proudly!Bfan53again wrote:I follow the Ravens, but lose any sleep (or money) over their W-L record. Good post and you're right, Baltimore is a great football town. My best wishes to the Ravens and their fans on Sunday......margaritamyers wrote:I was 9 years old when the Colts left Baltimore so I didn't have much a history with them but respect it. EAGLES have a huge fan base outside of PHILLY too. I think a Eagles-Steelers bowl would be great ratings

Re: 2008 NFL Season
The Ravens defense has been outstanding for many years. What amazes me is when they get a fumble recovery that can be advanced or interception they quickly react like an offensive team......everyone immediately turning around on the field, setting up blocks, trying to score each time. Which they do with regularlity. Of course, up until this year, their defense was their only offense.......Frank4 wrote:I love watching that defense play, but as a life long Steeler fan. He actually had some decent ideas, but coming from Romo now? They sounded ridiculous.
There was a segment on 60 Minutes a while back about Romo's head injuries. He's not the preson he was. The injuries have limited him to only being able to go surfing. He's a husband and father and seems rather clueless about his responsibilities. My son has been "recovering" from what Dr's call TBI, Tramatic Brain Injuries, for about the last 8 years. Same sort of thing as Romo. Get's better..... a majority of our men coming home from the Middle East that are injured suffer from TBI..... One of those "things" as a society we know very little about. Give Romo a break here.

Not too much pity for him.

It's a baby and the bathwater thing. Romo was NEVER a good citizen.
There was a story on the news not to long ago about a couple that got married and her husband went to Iraq. He was in accident where a RPG hit the Hummer he was in and this lady was in tears telling the reporter this is not the man I married and this is not the father of my children.

NFL: Broncos hire Nolan as coordinatorQuick move » New Denver coach chooses ex-Niners coach to rebuild defense.
The Associated Press
Updated: 01/14/2009 08:25:56 AM MST
Josh McDaniels went right to work Tuesday figuring out how to fix the dreadful Denver defense that was Mike Shanahan 's undoing.
His first order of business: luring former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Nolan to the cause. Nolan agreed late Tuesday to become the Broncos' fourth defensive coordinator in four years.
Nolan, 49, served as defensive coordinator with the Ravens, Jets, Redskins and Giants before getting his first head coaching job in San Francisco, where he was fired midway through his fourth season last year.
He got his start in the NFL as a special teams and linebackers coach on Dan Reeves ' staff in Denver from 1987-92.

I liked Romo a lot when he was here. I hope he got his 'roid issues handled. I think there's a little too much drain-bramage there to consider head coaching.SharkOnLand wrote:There's a rumor that McDaniels is looking into hiring Romo as a "performance coach".SMLCHNG wrote:YUP! I figure if there's room for him on the Denver staff, then I'm all for it. He and his wife have always embraced being in Denver.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.
