GIANTS CONFIRM THAT OSI IS DONE FOR THE YEAR
Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2008, 5:44 p.m. EDT
The New York Giants have confirmed the worst news their defense could have gotten during the 2008 preseason — Osi Umenyiora, a sack specialist who was poised to carry the load in the wake of the retirement of Michael Strahan, has been lost for the season.

Contrary to reports of a torn MCL, the team says that Umenyiora has a torn lateral meniscus.

He’ll have surgery on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that coach Tom Coughlin said the subject of luring Michael Strahan out of retirement was raised in the team’s offices on Sunday.

“I haven’t really talked to anyone at this point in time to be honest with you,” Coughlin added. “I’m sure that Jerry Reese and I and ownership will look long and hard at whatever options there are out there and do what’s best at this point in time.”

Strahan wanted $8 million to stay with the team; his price tag might have gone up considerably today.

This hurts the Giants' chances to repeat a lot.

I hear that the Giants are trying to convince Strahan to come back because of this.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

REPORT: STRAHAN WOULD CONSIDER RETURNING FOR $8 MILLION
Posted by Mike Florio on August 25, 2008, 9:38 a.m.
Defensive end Michael Strahan reportedly wanted $8 million to return for another year. When the Giants declined to pay it, he opted to retire.

Now that the team is in dire straits after the season-ending knee injury suffered by defensive end Osi Umenyiora, Strahan reportedly isn’t putting his thumb on the scale, even though he arguably could.

Per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Strahan’s asking price remains at $8 million.

“If the Giants make a sincere overture, it’s a good chance that Strahan would consider coming back,” an unnamed source told Vacchiano. ”There are other things he has to take into consideration: the money and his contract with Fox. But if the Giants really want him, they have a shot. It’s not out of the question.”

Vacchiano also reports, however, that the team doesn’t seem to be interested in bringing Strahan back at this point. For now, the team intends to replace Umenyiora by moving Mathias Kiwanuka, a former defensive end, from linebacker back to defensive end.

As we see it, if the Giants think they can get Strahan for $8 million — which is only $1.5 million more than they were willing to pay — we can’t imagine the Giants not bending a knee in order to bring Strahan back.

While Strahan has stayed in shape, he reportedly has lost ten pounds of muscle mass. So he might need some time to get that back, and he might not be as effective until he does.

A guy I work with is a huge Chiefs fan, and he's saying pretty much the same thing.
C'MON, you guys, where's your team spirit?

I'm going to get in LOTS of trouble for saying this, but I'm predicting a Chargers/Panthers super bowl.

I'm not thrilled with my Steelers yet...but I still have faith!

Tough schedule this year, but I think our younger talent is coming on strong now.

Brett Favre is not the answer for the Jests. It just sets them back another year in trying to develop a young quarterback.

Kyle Orton fever in Chicago-catch it. With the offensive line up here having more holes then Swiss Cheese, Kyle will not only be lucky to complete it, he'll be lucky to remember it.

More bad injury news for the Giants. S Craig Dahl, eight months after tearing an ACL in the regular-season finale against the Patriots, tore his other ACL in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets and is likely out for the season.

OCHO CINCO HAS TORN LABRUM
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 25, 2008, 4:51 p.m.
The shoulder injury that has sidelined Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson since August 17 is apparently more serious than Ocho Cinco has let on.

Although the injury has been described as a sprained shoulder, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported today that in reality, Johnson has a torn labrum in his shoulder. If Johnson decided to have surgery to repair the injury, it would end his season.

But Johnson’s current plan is to forego the surgery until after the season and play through the injury, and he expects to be on the field on September 7 when the Bengals open the season at Baltimore.

For his part, Johnson claims that his shoulder is doing fine. He told Bengals.com today, “I’m lifting my normal weight. I do everything normal now. Everything. It’s been what? Eight days? I’m back to normal.”

Johnson hasn’t been back on the field, but it looks like he will be in less than two weeks.

"Chad Johnson" and "normal" in the same paragraph. That's pretty damn funny.

It's going to be a really long season in Chicago. Bears will be looking at a top 10 pick in the 2009 draft

Not only will it be a long season for the Bears, but, I'd be willing to bet any team in that division that finishes with an 8-8 record will be the division winner.

Orton will have at least 600 yards passing this year. Guaranteed. He plays my Lions twice a year.

If he's not injured by the time the Bears play the Lions.

Funny thing is I think the Lions might be all right. They have two of the better receivers in the NFL, unfortunately they have the worst GM in the NFL.

I'd say the Vikings win the division this year.

The Lions will probably be decent on the field-all they'll need is a .500 seaon, and it COULD win them the division.
But yes, it'll no doubt be the Vikings.
Here's how I see it-
Vikings 9-7
Lions 8-8
Packers 8-8
Bears 4-12 :( :( :(
