Ha! I remembered!!!!
OK ...Islands come in all forms and can occur on any body of water....simply stated, an island is any land form surrounded by contigous water......The island in the picture is at the heart of one of our greatest national parks. It has seen war, and famine and prosperity......over 10,000 years ago.....
- What National Park?
- What are the 2 bodies of water in the picture?
- Why is the one body of water such a strange color of blue?
- Who were the prehistoric people who inhabited this area?
- Where did they go??????

The Little Colorado River (turquoise) flowing into the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon National Park
The Little Colorado flows through the Navajo Indian reservation, I'm guessing the color is due to copper deposits

The answer to the second part is the Anasazi. (although I'm thinking they were a little farther east?? Could be some other tribe)
And the jury is still out on where they went. Might I recommend the book IN SEARCH OF THE OLD ONES for those of you who'd like to learn more.

Well Done Star Edge!!!!! Yes the Anasazi ranged throughout the 4 corners region. In the canyon they are know for their erection of stone and adobe mud mortar buildings and structures that remain today...perhaps the most famous is the Anasazi grainery structures high up in a cliffside alcove on the North side of the river around 40 miles or so down stream of Lee's ferry at Nankoweap.......
ANd Yes ...no one knows what happened to them....they were there and then abruptly they were gone......

I didn't realize they had built in the Canyon. I knew about the various cliff dwellings around the 4 corners area. Spent 19 years in Tucson and only made it to the Canyon once. IT was fogged in. COuldn't see the edge, much less over it.

The turquoise color comes from mineral deposits that bleach the bottom of the river white. Is this correct??
