Some computer help, please.

Post by Brown Eyed Girl »

I think my laptop is possessed. :-? It was working fine this morning. I put it to sleep (yikes!) for a few hours, came back and it's showing no wireless connection. Hmmmm. Okay, checked the router, it's on and seems to be working fine, but unplugged it and waited and then plugged it in again. Still nothing on the laptop. Check for wireless connections, it shows none available. Click on diagnose the problem and get this: This computer does not have a wireless netowrk adapter installed and configured. WTF? Yes it does, and it was working fine just a few hours before.

I've run scans, I did a system restore...nothing.

Do those wireless cards or adapters or whatever they are go bad? If so, how big a deal is it to replace them ( I know NOTHING about computer hardware).

I do have a wireless connect card from AT&T and it works with that...if that means anything to anyone or makes any difference in the diagnosis. It's really driving me nuts...I hope someone can help. :(

I have to pull my wireless card out and push it back in everytime i start my computer, otherwise I can't get on the internet. And the previous card I had died, ended up not being able to find the signal even when i was in the same room as the router.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

Does your wireless adapter show under network adapters in Device Manager?

Didja try re-installing the wireless adapter?

If I could remember how to get to device manager I'd tell ya...I saw it earlier today. I did just look at network and it showed nothing, and then install wireless device which says it generates a list of devices available but not configured...but no wireless devices were found.

It came wireless ready...I wouldn't even know where to look for a card or whatever, let alone how to reinstall it. :-?

Awwww dangit KK! It's a conspiracy I tell ya! :(

Okay, found my device manager, found network adapters, it said both things were working but I did update the driver on something called network controller...maybe that will help. Guess that means another reboot..ugh. Got a couple things to do first though.

I fixed my puter!!! :D

I went to the bios thingie and checked stuff out...when I got to boot options it said that the 'internal network adapter boot' was disabled. I enabled it, saved and exited and bingo..the little blue wireless light came on and I was connected!

I really don't know what I did...but it worked.

I'd also give a quick call to your ISP and see if THEY'RE having any glitches.
Who said this has to be be your computer's fault??

after that, I'd say "buy a Mac!" :o 8)

I've had a few Macs...2 bad apples in a row made me give them up. If you want to give me the money for a new one, I might try them again.

I suppose it could be the ISP...but the fact that it isn't recognizing ANY wireless networks (usually it shows a couple open and protected ones, along with mine) and the fact that that little light is orange and not blue leads me to believe it's an internal problem. :-?
