Belize is the way to go. PVR is home to the condo commandos! Lots of salesmen pushing condos in PVR and Nuevo Puerto Vallerta (which is in a different time zone)
Captain Jack's Bar & Grill, Home to the Lost Manatee.

BR,
I have mixed feelings about PV... we stayed at a beautiful resort (sorry, can't come up with the name), had fun exploring and shopping in the city, ate well and the weather was wonderful.
BUT - for all our caution about not drinking the water, we both had a bad case of Montezuma's Revenge.
Also, it was a trip given to me for reaching a sales goal, therefore, not only were all my fellow employees there, but my boss and her husband were there as well. We were expected to hang out with all of them every waking moment (it was painful).
And lastly, we flew a cheap airline (Ryan Air) which never received clearance to fly around some So. Texas thunderstorms and, I kid you not, for about 50 minutes, I thought I was going to die. I've never been so terrified in my life. One of the flight attendants even passed out in the aisle!
But, I'm sure those things wouldn't happen to you!
Enjoy your trip, no matter where you decide to go.

there are a few Riu resorts there that will be a lot nicer than the Royal Decameron....... Also, try the Riviera Nayarit area.... newer resort area.

It's been awhile.....
We stayed at ta condo on the beach south of town.....great location as we had 1 keet at the time.....later we moved to a house just south of the river again a very cool place......we were there during the marachi contests...great stuff!!!! (in November around the Thanksgiving holidays)
One of my best memories was having Thanksgiving dinner at Los Arbelitos on the 3rd floor (open air dining...it was fun and we had an increadible time!!!...then again....that was 14 years ago......If I were to go now.....I would probably go back to Aukumal......different vibe altogether.....
