Saw Jimmy in Tampa that first year they opened the new ampitheatre by the fairgrounds . . . it was cold up here. It was warm down there. It was nice!Migration Michelle wrote:I agree with DrunkPirate...I remember living in the Northeast and going to shows and dreaming of the life Jimmy sings about. It was always very fun.![]()

But, I have to say, there is NOTHING like flying into Florida from the North to see an outdoor show amongst all the palm trees and royal blue skies!![]()
Now that I live in Florida and it is tropical all the time, I don't get the same feeling that I did about the shows here. My friends that fly in, however, LOVE it so much!!! It gets them through the winter.![]()

In my opinion (and it ain't worth s***, really), Great Woods is living off its reputation. I've been there twice. It's OK but it's no better, or worse, than a lot of other venues. If it wasn't a relatively easy drive for me to get there from LI I doubt if I'd go out of my way to go back.

While I must say I love seeing JB at GreatWoods, i think there are other reasons why we all may like seeing him at certain venues. I know many of us are talking about tailgating, lawns, seats, etc, but there is another factor at work, i feel.
Jimmy does a great job of getting to know the local culture and hot spots at many of his shows, and mentions them a few times in between songs, and even during songs (Margaritaville, Fins, Waiting for the Next Explosion, etc). Personally, I think it adds a local flavor to the show and for a few moments, it doesn't make you feel like it's just another "stop on the tour". I feel it makes the show more memorable.
Whatch'all think?

so you are not a horny, overly sarcastic, often arrogant p**** who doesn't feel that the position of catcher is important enough in the MLB to warrant consideration for the HOF unless said catcher hits lots of homeruns who goes around groping hot girls from Ireland brought by guys who fancy themselves a "drunkpirate" at New England Buffett shows?LIPH wrote:And my reputation is about as far from the truth as you can get.

For the record, Great Woods isn't the only venue he calls the best parking lot on the tour... amongst others: (case in point)drunkpirate66 wrote:That may or may not be true. And Great Woods usually gets that complement. And to give Jimmy credit he only says it at one venue a year. Whatever. It is all good to me. Alpine is the sh*t! I just hate the lack of ocean the next day.

ALL Annual Buffett Regular Spots are nothing short of special. No one will deny this.
What makes Great Woods more special to me is the simple the culture of the environment. Buffett's music embobies Nantucket and the Vineyard. Block Island to Newport . . . Portland Maine to Bar Harbor and the tiny New Hampshire coast. It is special here. The Great Woods lot has a tradition of attracting tens of thousands of people with actuall ties to the ocean and its lifestyle. This might sound strange to people in great places like Wisconsin or Indy or Cinci but it is true. And if my opinion does not matter than Jimmy's opinion should. Jimmy has vacationed in Massachusetts and Maine since the late 70's. He knows the area and he knows the people. This comes out in the parking lot twice a year at Great Woods with almost effortless normalcy. It is not the venue or the physical parking lot but the lat and long of the area. No disrespect to the Jones Beach folk but the sailing boating culture doesn't even exist there in comparison although the venue is beautiful. I know tons of people who actually sail who actually live the life Jimmy preaches who come from boating areas from Nantucket past Bar Harbor who never miss a show. There in lies the difference.
But the bottom line is simple . . . all venues are tons of fun. It is who you prefer to party with, I suppose. Parrot Head's in general are fine with me.
Well put Pirate.

I know, it's all good. I'd like to give GW a try someday... if I do, can you give me the day-after ocean experience, please?? We have Lake Michigan, or a bunch of lakes in general, but I know they don't compare to the salt air.
And perhaps the Chicken Box too, sometime?

Agree 100%!! Some artists can't even get their current city correct let alone be able to reference a somewhat neighboring geographical area within the same state of the concert.SharkysMV1 wrote:While I must say I love seeing JB at GreatWoods, i think there are other reasons why we all may like seeing him at certain venues. Last summer (or was it two summers ago . . .Man, I really can't remember) I took a drive through the Northern area of Michigan all the way up to Copper Harbor and out to Isle Royale. The beaches up there were as perfect as I can imagine. The lack of salt in the air messed with my head because it felt like the ocean in every other way . . .Tiki Bar wrote:I know, it's all good. You come out for Great Woods (or just in general) and I will buy you a shot at the Chicken Box and show you around. This part of the world is near perfect and I am just glad I got to work out here for a little while.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.
