It's the calling him a drug addict I objected to. If someone just doesn't like his music that's fine, hell, most of my friends don't "get" it. But dissing him as a drug addict kind of ticks me off.
We all just use the 'don't get it' line so often b/c we love to share our love for Buffett's music with everyone else that does. It takes us to that place which we all understand, and even though others have those same places with different 'tour guides', we just think its more peaceful to get there our way. We're all not up in arms b/c they don't get it, we're just fortunate that we do, in the way we do!
Some of my own family are the same way. They don't get it either. That's why I wear my Margaritaville shirts and concert shirts to every family dinner, event, reunions.etc that comes around.
I knew this girl when I was in high school that used to say Jimmy was a sexist pig because of "Why Don't We Get Drunk"....I always told her it was a love song from a different point of view...
Sexist? He!!, I say that to my husband all the time.........
When I said "he doesn't get it" I wasn't implying he had to, just that he doesn't (follow me).
I just thought it was hilarious.
Sure can't wait for the Labor Day weekend show at Nissan. Seems so far away. I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic this morning on the Baltimore Beltway. Instead of listening to ESPN Radio like I always do on the way in, I rolled down all the windows, put in my Tues/Th/Sat CD, turned up the volume, and relaxed. Sure did make it easier to sit in that traffic.

Anyway, they are looking at T-Shirts and the husband flips the tag over and says "look at that, they want $22.00 for a T-Shirt about a drug addict who sings about Cheeseburgers". He then shakes his head, and they walk out of the store......
I have no doubt that this same guy pumped plenty of $20 bills into those slot machines though.

You want to talk about "not getting it"? I was actually asked one time by a coworker - with disdain, not amusement - "are you people (Parrotheads) the same people that attend Star Trek conventions"?
"Just ask for some palm trees, or tales from the South Seas, and I just might turn some heads"
I was watching the Scenes You Know By Heart DVD and my wife caught part of it and made a comment something like, "He's probably never had to worry about anything, or had any responsibility. Probably don't have any kids to worry about."
I had to give her a 15 minute lecture on Jimmy and where he started and what all he does. She had no idea.
Kinda like someone else said, "It's a Parrothead thing. You wouldn't understand."
I've got to get her to Vegas with me this year. Maybe I can convert her.

Fleetwood - you REALLY have to consider counseling. Marriages that are based on different faiths need all the help they can get!!
