New Orleans
I am headed to New Orleans in a few weeks, for the weekend and looking for someplace to stay, any suggestions? Is it better to stay in a chain hotel, or someplace with some history?
I have only been there one time for 4 hours as part of a road trip, so I have lots of things to see. I am looking forward to eating at the Acme Oyster house again, then from there it is up in the air. Maybe happy hour at margaritaville on friday.
Has anyone done the Old New Orleans Rum Tour at the distillery? Is it worth the stop or should we avoid it? Also thought about going to the Abita Brewery if anyone has any thoughts on that.
Thanks for any information.

I stayed in Hotel St. Marie in the French Quarter in December last year. Our room faced the courtyard. It's a nice little place. http://www.hotelstmarie.com
As for food, I love the blue cheese burgers at Yo Mama's on 727 St. Peter St (also in the Quarter). mmmm....makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

When we were there for JazzFest, we spent a few nights at the Wyndham Riverfront- it's one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. The freakin housekeeping staff showed up at our room before 8am and again before 10 on the day we were checking out!! It was mostly ok otherwise, but not what I would expect from a Wyndham. The tile in the bathroom looked awful- tons of cracks in the tiles. That's fine for some $100 place, but my expectations were much higher for a supposedly nice place. And the location is not good at all if you primarily want to play in the FQ.
We spent the last night at the Prince Conti. We loved it. If it was a person, it would be a very old Southern Belle. It was extremely clean, but there was just this old lady wearing lots of power feel to it. The staff was great, as was the location.
We've also previously stayed at the Baronne Plaza (eh- not bad, not great either) and the Ambassador. We liked the Ambassador, but it's an old warehouse turned hotel, and it shows.
We're off to Cleveland for a Sauce Boss show, but I'll post more when I get back!

Thanks for all the great food suggestions, especially where to find some fantastic Bananas Foster, that is always a bonus. Narrowed down the hotel to Lextington O hotel and suites. We got a good flight/hotel package, hopefully we picked a good hotel. It is on canal so hopefully a good location.
I have decided to nix the rum distillery, I saw it online, but it appears no one has ever been, so I won't be going either. We will be going to the Abita Brewery though for some free beer.
I had never heard of Pardi Gras before, I may have to check that out in January, sounds like fun.
I am getting pretty excited, less than 2 weeks till trip time.

The BonTon is a very good place to eat. Great crawfish dishes & excellent bread pudding.
I always have to go to the Camellia Grill (take the St. Charles streetcar thru the Garden District to RiverBend.) Roadfood has a good writeup with pictures. I always have the loaded omelet with chili.

Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro does a really good Bananas Foster cheesecake that is Mrs. Frognot's fave.
Lunch at Commander's Palace with 25 cent martinis is hard to beat.

Bobby: No.
