This is just so sad. I would not call the fellow (scumbag) a parrothead. He didn't seem to be there to see Jimmy, but to troll the parking lot for someone incapable of refusing him. :x I wonder if he even had a ticket.

As for the girl...I can't believe whoever was drinking with her left her like that. If she was that wasted that she passed out, she could have died from alcohol poisoning. I worked with a girl who went out drinking with friends and ended up in intensive care. Luckily her friends called her mom when she passed out and she called an ambulance.

Hopefully this person has learned that her tolerance to alcohol isn't quite what she thought it was and will adjust her consumption accordingly in the future. She could have ended up dead in more ways than one....

((victim))

:x scumbag

Let's not forget that not all people at a Buffett show are Parrotheads.

You get no argument out of me there, however I have run across people that frequent the discussion boards, some were even here until banned, that are the most vile disgusting rude hurtful backstabbing people I have ever encountered. You simply cannot just assume that if someone even knows the music and calls themselves a parrothead that automatically makes them a good person.

I can also honestly say that if I got that drunk that I wouldn't want any of my friends to babysit my passed out butt and miss the show. I would, however, expect them to lock the car doors.

I agree completely...just getting ready to post the same comment.

A good friend of mine got the s**t beaten out of him at the Orlando concert last year. (A VERY strong, very capable person I might add.) He was completely out of it and wondered off in the parking lot before the show was over. We thought he was going to the restroom and we should have NEVER let him go anywhere alone. There are lessons to be learned from this....man, woman, whatever...don't let your friends walk around obliterated at a concert by themselves. It is a recipe for disaster.
It is soooo true. I love having fun as much as the next person but there is an element of safety that must be thought of at public events. I was taught and often reminded by my older brother never to leave my drink alone for even a minute and to never get so drunk that I would become an easy target. I feel so bad for this girl .........

Problem is that with the temps. at this show someone might not have lasted 15 minutes in a locked car, even with widows slightly open. Even if nobody's driving, maybe groups still need a non-drinking person to act as the designated decision maker. Sadly, mass quantities of alcohol and the excitement of a show can lead to some pretty poor choices.

I'm well aware of the temps- the majority of the shows I've been to have been in Dallas. I grew up in hell aka Texas heat.

I think the decision making person sounds like a good idea, however have you ever been sober and trying to talk sense into a bunch of drunks?

According to weather.com yesterday's high was 91 and the low was 64. With an 8pm start time the temps were well on the way down and it could have been feasible. She was left in a car to begin with.

I just don't think those that left her there should be bashed or blamed as I'm sure they are bashing themselves enough as it is.

Agreed. All blame lies with the perpetrator.

I used to work with rape/sexual assault suvivors...
IMHO, someone can walk down the street naked..., while that may be indecent exposure, it doesn't give anyone permission to have sex with them w/o their consent.

Someone asleep in a car, regardless of their condition, certainly does not presume permission for sex.
Guilt is totally upon the perpetrator.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

Parrothead or not, when something this terrible happens at any event he'll be grouped into us ... similar to the Pistons/Pacers brawl at the Palace a few years ago. It makes the entire Piston fan base and city of Detroit look that much more terrible

You know, y'all can skewer me for this but here goes.

First of all there is absolutely NO excuse for what that excuse for a human being did and hopefully even our flawed legal system will give him what he deserves.

HOWEVER, a little personal responsibility on the part of the young woman would be nice. Maybe it's my age or something but even when I was in my 20's "Party til you puke" never seemed like fun to me. I see people on these boards bragging about how much they drank last night, how much they're drinking now and how drunk they're going to get at the next concert etc. , what a set up for some young person trying to "fit in". While my heart goes out to her she does have to claim some responsibility for making herself a target by being foolish enough to drink so much, not staying hydrated in the heat or whatever. And yes, her friends should have been looking out for her better, but it's possible she told them to go ahead and then just passed out. But again, if you drink so much that alcohol poisioning or vomit reflux may be an issue, at least a little of the fault lies with you. Hopefully she, and others who have a tendency to over-do it, will learn something as well.

And yes, I HAVE crossed that line before in my lifetime, but after one or two times I decided that the pleasure was definitely NOT worth the pain.

Hopefully she doesn't recall the actual details and can recover and move on.

I FULLY agree! Sometimes on these boards it does become almost a competition so to speak..I am 21, right in the thick of it, and that's not my version of fun. I am not bashing, and yes, I know I am in a Jimmy Buffett forum. But, sometimes people put themselves in positions of vulnerability though it still does not excuse the perpetrator at any cost!! Just be smart out there today (Alpine)!

I'm not bashing either - I'm sure no one here MEANS it to be a competition it's all said in fun, but sometimes our words carry greater weight than we think.

Nicely put. Its sad that this is not an uncommon thing. This happens too often on college campuses and even in the real world, many times the crimes are not even reported.

Not only is this wrong on so many levels: morally and socially, this also makes the performer look bad too because it happened at his show, even though it isn't his fault.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Aren't there first aid/emergency stations at each venue, usually near the entrance? If you are with someone who is too drunk to go into the venue, and you insist on going into the concert without them, get them to the first aid area where they can be attended too and watched-don't leave them alone no matter what!

Very well said, Scarlet
As a guy, I likely could not get away with stating what you just did, without a full flame response.
I'll be very interested to follow up to see this scumbag prosecuted for taking advantage of a "disabled" person.

As far as personal responsibility goes, it is a fine line any time you add alcohol to the mix.

One comment that I have on the article is that they were so quick to point out that the girl drank too much and couldnt make it into the concert......... which almost comes off as somewhat of an excuse to me.

BUT, no one mentioned in the article why HE was in the lot and not in the concert. Was he trolling the parking lot to see what he could steal, and came across the girl?? Or did he have to much to drink also??

No one seemed concerned about what he was doing in the lot, and what his condition was.......... but for some reason the fact that she had been drinking was put in the article.
