I think we are all concerned about what he did in that lot. It is easy to draw a conclusion about why she was there. Since he was conscience and arrested he probably wasn't willing to discuss his intentions in the parking lot. Any conclusions drawn by the paper could be libel.alaura1974 wrote:One comment that I have on the article is that they were so quick to point out that the girl drank too much and couldnt make it into the concert......... which almost comes off as somewhat of an excuse to me.
BUT, no one mentioned in the article why HE was in the lot and not in the concert. Was he trolling the parking lot to see what he could steal, and came across the girl?? Or did he have to much to drink also??
No one seemed concerned about what he was doing in the lot, and what his condition was.......... but for some reason the fact that she had been drinking was put in the article.

Amen! Sometimes I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'm a Parrothead . . . From reading these boards, you'd think that being a Parrothead was more about booze and less about being a fan of Jimmy Buffett. I guess there are a lot of people who haven't progressed beyond stage 3 of "the 9 stages of Buffett": http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... parrotheadspringparrot wrote:Thank you ScarletScarletB wrote:You know, y'all can skewer me for this but here goes.
First of all there is absolutely NO excuse for what that excuse for a human being did and hopefully even our flawed legal system will give him what he deserves.
HOWEVER, a little personal responsibility on the part of the young woman would be nice. Maybe it's my age or something but even when I was in my 20's "Party til you puke" never seemed like fun to me. I see people on these boards bragging about how much they drank last night, how much they're drinking now and how drunk they're going to get at the next concert etc. , what a set up for some young person trying to "fit in". While my heart goes out to her she does have to claim some responsibility for making herself a target by being foolish enough to drink so much, not staying hydrated in the heat or whatever. And yes, her friends should have been looking out for her better, but it's possible she told them to go ahead and then just passed out. But again, if you drink so much that alcohol poisioning or vomit reflux may be an issue, at least a little of the fault lies with you. Hopefully she, and others who have a tendency to over-do it, will learn something as well.
And yes, I HAVE crossed that line before in my lifetime, but after one or two times I decided that the pleasure was definitely NOT worth the pain.
Hopefully she doesn't recall the actual details and can recover and move on.
After spending a couple of grand to see him (we have to go to Vegas, 'cuz he doesn't seem to like coming to Seattle!) I want to be stone cold sober so that I can remember every minute of the concert (well, other than WDWGDAS or Glory Days or Rainy Day Women #12 and 35.) I actually had a co-worker say to me "Man, what a great concert! I was so drunk I don't remember the second half!" WTF? How in the hell does he know if the concert was any good?
As many other people have said, this never should have happened to this woman, but we all need to be responsible and not put ourselves into situations that allow things like this to happen. Like I keep preaching to my two daughters, "bad things happen to good people who put themselves in bad situations."

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but sometimes they have really good ideas....
SPH
What if she had passed out and vomited and inhaled and died? Or overheated?
It's terrible no matter how you look at it. She was left alone to begin with - without the doors locked obviously. Her friends or whoever should be...I'm sure they are not happy about. Very very bad thinking and judgment all the way around.
Yet alone the idiot for doing that. Fu*cking moron.

Unfortunately, they let in civilians, too....ph4ever wrote:The simple fact is that unfortunately not all parrotheads are good people. These kinds of things should never happen.............. there isnt anything to say that would make this better, or make it make any sense.

I think that was just some bloggers take on the incident , rather than a real news article, but it certainly points out even moreso what a total moron this guy is. Who DOES a thing like that??? Guys??? Why would a guy do a thing like that? Seriously, is there any part of him who thought it was cool?? ickflipflopgirl wrote:PartofthePhlock wrote:here is another article.

It's stories like this, along with my own experiences at a few recent shows, that have made me question buying tickets the past couple years. I had a very bad experience at Cincy about 6 years ago, and haven't been back since. I keep hearing people talk about how the tailgating at Indy is "tame" compared to Cincy and other venues, which is leading me to believe many people have a far different idea of fun than I do. If tame means I can avoid fistfights, assaults, and my vehicle getting picked clean of anything removable during the show, I'll take it any day. Gone are the days where I would get a really nice buzz on and sway away on the lawn without a care in the world. While I still have a few before going through the gate, I make sure to keep my situational awareness at a fairly high level at all times. Anyone I don't know, and especially those who are obviously way past 3 sheets to the wind, is a potential threat. It's sad that this is what it's come to, but in this day and age, it's how you should act if you want to guarantee everybody in your party gets home in one piece. This story is just one of several worst case scenarios illustrating how bad things can go. Should she have been left alone in her condition, no. Does that excuse what this guy did? Of course not! He's garbage and will get what he deserves, hopefully a nice prison sentence followed by a lifetime of having to register as a sexual offender with his picture and address on the internet for all to see. *Sigh* Fights, thievery, and now rape. I shudder to think what will happen next...

Well it can happen in the Catholic Church - so no where is safe really.
While the male person is the one to blame - as a female, I also see it my responsibility to ensure I do not put myself in to a vulnerable position.
I did so once - and whilst nothing happened - I did have to threaten to jump over the cliff to get myself out of the situation - so I was allowed to leave - while the guy should not have done what he did - I did a stupid thing to put myself there.

Just remember this can happen any where even in indy ( while I love Indy even the venue but cincy is like a home to me). I did not personally did not see any wrong doings and thought everyone got along together. heck there was even a wedding in the parking lot.blank1127 wrote:It's stories like this, along with my own experiences at a few recent shows, that have made me question buying tickets the past couple years. i'm betting some one who just showed up for the tailgating...seems to be more and more of that. i know there are a lot of good people who do that these days(can't afford tickets) but there are also people who just show up to get blasted in the parking lot!Capt.Flock wrote:I am just wondering if he was from the track or just someone who showed up for the tailgating ?flipflopgirl wrote:((((((((((((((((Flocker))))))))))))))) i said earlier in the thread...i know if you had seen this going on you would have kicked the guy's A$$!!!!

Actually, I'd put it another way. True Parrotheads, by and large, are good people. Unfortunately, sales of tickets to Buffett shows are not limited to only Parrotheads. And buying tickets to shows and albums does not, by definition, make one a Parrothead in my NSHO.ph4ever wrote:The simple fact is that unfortunately not all parrotheads are good people. I've had my own unpleasant experiences with drunk a-wipes at Buffett shows. In no way do I consider them representative of Parrotheads as a whole.
On the other wing, one of my spiritual teachers was fond of saying that he believed that Creator had scattered equal portions of good people and goofy ones among all the groups on Earth. So I'm sure we've got our bad apples (mangoes?) too.
Regardless, this is a sad thing. I hope for healing for the lady in question, and for justice to appear, full-winged, in the face of the perp.

The bottom line is, if you don't get drunk or too drunk then this kind of bad s h i t won't happen to you. It used to be, back in the day, if I had to p*** while JB was playing I was p*** about that. Nowadays it wouldn't bother me to miss a few songs.
Parrotheads do brag - a lot - about being and getting really drunk. Whoo hoo - fun.
With exception to Jazz Fest because I'm usually there all day already (sober), whenever I do manage to go see Jimmy I'm completely sober and I wait until the last possible minute to get in so I'm not having to tolerate all the tail gating crap.

I gotta take issue with this.... We don't know whether it was just alcohol or whether she had some medical condition as well. Yes, you have to be responsible when you drink, especially if you're alone, but there could well have been other issues. Just because someone is acting totally blitzed doesn't mean there isn't something else wrong as well. Someone who passes out and can't be woken up needs medical attention.....caly wrote:I think this is more of a irresponsible drunk chick than a Buffett concert incident. Not that I think he had the right to do what he did, but she was pretty stupid to do what she did.
I picked on caly's post because it was one of the more recent in this thread, but there have been several posts alluding to irresponsibility on her part. To that, I have one thing to say: "Let he (she) who is without sin cast the first stone." Based on BN posts alone I'd bet that a majority of us (certainly not all, but a majority) have made the error of drinking too much at least once in our lifetime, and thank God our friends looked out for us. We're in no position to criticize her habits. If we knew the situation and knew she got blitzed every show, that might be different. We don't know... It might have been the first time she'd make that mistake. Maybe the heat got her. We just don't know, and I think it's unfair of us to criticize.....
It's also possible that she didn't have any friends at the show, or that she simply took off to her car and her friends didn't know where she was parked, went into the show thinking she was already inside, etc. There are lots of possible scenarios.
Carry on as you know they would want you to do. ~~JB, dedication to Tim Russert
