Songs That I Think Are Clams
Seeing that the worst set list etc...has been so inspiring for people to call out the clams I figured let's go for all the clams on the studio records. Now, I know a lot of people here don't like his first two albums but I do like them and I have yet to really find a terrible song on them. But he has some albums - Beach House and Take The Weather and Last Mango and One Particular Harbour - that have 2 clams on them and some albums that don't have any clams. I know I left songs off of this list that a lot of people can't stand - Alerted Boy and Hokey Pokey and a few others of that nature but I find those to be too amusing to be actual bad songs. So here you go:
God's Own Drunk (studio version)
It's My Job
Livin' It Up
Brown Eyed Girl
Everybody's On The Run
If The Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me
If It All Falls Down
The City
Vampires, Mummies And The Holy Ghost
Cultural Infidel
Math Suks
I Don't Know And I Don't Care
Autour Du Rocher
Sail On Sailor
Party At The End Of The World
Silver Wings

I edited it for you...JustDucky wrote:I didn't realise that suks - as in Math Suks - was going to get censored like that! Had I known I'd have used a different word!
And I actually like a lot of the songs you've listed, so this is clearly one person's opinion!
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

I have a scallops question. I just bought two bags of albeit frozen, bay scallops. There was also a bag just called scallops. I bought the ones I bought because they were BOGO free, but I need some scallops education.Skibo wrote:Never a fan of clams but I love scallops.SharkOnLand wrote:I like clams.

These are not the clams you are looking for.Dezdmona wrote:[Obi-Wan Kenobi] "You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." Agree to disagree --now that's out of the way
I agree, partially, on If It All Falls Down.
I like some of the lyrics quite a bit though...for instance:
Never wanted to be
A part of history
I have my days in the sun
A beach bum a man for all sea sides
Guidance counselor said
Your scores are anti-heroic

Hard-drinking calypso poet
Perhaps Jimmy and the band would be willing to pull a "Police" and record it to a different tune....though nothing may save that chorus...'cept a re-write.
But I'm betting you'll receive most grief for your distaste of The City (a cover by the way --not released on a Studio album, that isn't a Best Of, or Live).
I always find it funny to hear people singing and cheering as if THEIRS is THE City...like that'd be something good?
I was constantly told
How our lives were controlled by the city
How they keep us in debt
With the trends that they set it's a pity
Now the beautiful people in the magazines
Got the normal ones living beyond their means
And the things that they said
Made me go in my head to the city
I hear The City as a slam on the fact that so many are in trouble, because they're trying to emulate others. Now, whose fault is that exactly? agreed, it's mostly their fault.....live to be yourself already!.....but I think we all fall victim to trying to keep up with the Jones' from time to time....if not all the time.

I looked at the live albums and that, The City, was the only tune out of others that I had already mentioned (BEG) that I don't like.
It has nothing to do with what the song says. Same as If It All Falls Down. It's just dull, bland, whatever - it's pretty bad, as in - it's not good. And this list is not picky to Buffett songs but any that he recorded or covered. There are some others that are a bit doubtful but, for me, not clearly as bad as the tunes listed here. I do not care for anything on Last Mango but I still like most of them. But the real stinkers - they be on this here list.
Conky Tonkin' is another one I'd add to the list. It's just bad. I somehow missed that one...and to think he was going to name the album that.
Anyway, much better title for this thread, thank you. It's pretty funny I think. 'Laid a clam' is a recording term so it fits.
What's even funnier is how people like certain songs that other people think stink. What I don't get about that is just exactly HOW. In a sense, I just hope that if I ever see JB live again that none of these songs are played...which I guess brings up the ol' wish list set list...
