if you plan on partying after Buffett in Newport town bring a few nips or something because after 715 it will be a long, long wait for a cold adult beverage . . . I mean loooooooooooong.
Talking with a couple of my friends last night. We are thinking about just sitting at a bar near the venue and listening to the show for free while acquiring us some prime real estate at the bar.

I know this is a Parrot Head website but Cowboy Junkies and Trey the day before would be the way to go . . . I think.

After Cowboy Junkies play I'm probably going to wander the stages. I'd like to hear the Marleys.

If I was going to be there Saturday I'd like to see Steve Earle & Allison Moorer.

Wailers are playing the Chicken Box next week . . . if I am on island I will check that out . . . I have seen them play there twice. Great show. And it usually attracts some interesting fans . . .

I called and they say the parking lot opens at 8am....
For those that are going - are you planning the usual Parrothead tailgating??
I'm wondering if we should bring our tiki bar....what do y'all have planned???
We are staying at MeadlowLark Campground - anyone else joining us???

As far as I know, no coolers.
There will be alcohol available starting at 1:00 each day, for consumption in "designated areas."

You won't be able to tailgate beyond standing around and drinking soda. It's a no-kidding, no open container state park.

Hey, y'all kiddies, remember that this Festival's been around for over 45 years, was a big thing when we and JB was all in COLLEGE, for sakes, and re the parks, it is in Blue Book New England, too. Regardless of any restrictions on y'all, JB himself is probably proud, no honored, to be there; it closes the circle, so to speak, if you are of The Generation, and you just have to go with the way it is. For summer Festivals, Newport is to all the others as La Scala is to all the opera houses of the world. Go enjoy a lobster, and visit the Tennis Hall of Fame. :D

Well said!
As even JB himself said, this will not be a parrothead event. But it WILL be a great music event, and I can't wait to see what JB plays! I'm assuming we'll hear Rainy Day Women as a nod to Dylan (he's been practicing all year, after all

). It'd be just plain AWESOME if the rest of the set list was nothing but folk-y acoustic numbers.
For this show I could most certainly do without Margaritaville and Fins...
As far as parrothead regalia goes, Newport might just be the place to leave the parrot, shark, and cheeseburger hats at home.... honestly, it'll look kinda silly, imho.....
Enjoy the music, the food, and the atmosphere, and don't worry about the fact that you can't tailgate for this one.
And if you have time, visit a mansion. The "summer cottages" of the rich and famous in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.... Amazing.....

If you have the time and the energy, do the Cliff Walk. It goes along the shoreline and you can see the back of a lot of the mansions (private as well as the historical ones).
