Best Venue to see Jimmy...

Post by EIZGUY9 »

After going to both shows last weekend at Toyota Park, we are considering a road trip next year to see the shows. What are your thoughts/experience on best venue to see Jimmy?

Honolulu! Nothing like hearing Jimmy sing "Volcano" while sitting beneath the shadow of Diamond Head!

Runner-up: Las Vegas. The "Last Man Standing Party" is worth the trip alone!

Well, the Cubs are gonna have to win the Series before he goes back there (at least that's what he says on the DVD)...

There are some folks that drive down to Texas from Illinois every year. :D

Anguilla. It was what Jimmy's music is about.

If he does it again - go.

We spent $600 for two tix to go to Toyota Park. 1 night in a hotel close to the show, gas to & from Michigan and meals. Anguilla was 4 times that amount but worth it beyond any comparison.

Biggest regret in 2008 - passing on the chance to see Jimmy in Hong Kong. Can't do Paris due to my trial schedule but Hong Kong I foolishly passed on due the super long flight.

Every ampitheater show (with teh exception of Hawaii, which I have not yet done) is basically the same. Really fun, but really similar.
I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me

I'd definitely do any show he does in the Caribbean.
I regret missing Anguilla.

Also, if you have a shot at seeing him in a small intimate venue, go for it.
I saw him in Austin (2006) at the Paramount (just him & Mac), & it was special.
(tho' nothing will ever compare to Mother Blues Bar in Dallas in the mid-70's  )

But, as far as shows on the tour, I tend to go where I'll see BN'rs.
While Jimmy's show does change a bit depending on the region of the country he's in, it's the people I'm sharing the day and/or trip with that make the difference to me. :D

A good time was had by all--at the Elk's preparty (who knew!), concert, Duke's, luau, etc. etc. etc.!

And a thumb's up to Anguilla as well! In my life I have had several perfect days--and that was one of 'em!

flipflop--are you on for Tahiti? (dreaming, dreaming!)

Hong Kong was the best, most laid back place to see Jimmy with the most incredibly nice people in the audience.

Any of the cool, unusual shows: Anguilla, Maui, Aspen, probably Paris (although I didn't see that one), Honolulu

Of the "usual" ones, Great Woods and Alpine for the whole tailgating/show package. Frisco is an incredible tailgate, but I don't care for stadiums. I haven't been to Cincy but I think that's up there, too.

Anguilla cost me less than many of my other trips. The ticket was $107 and lodging could be found on the cheap. I used frequent flyer miles to get there, but the airline tickets were still way cheaper than Hawaii.
