That doesn't make sense to me.
Feeding Frenzy and You Had To Be There are a classics in my collection. There are also cuts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays that I like.

Over 40 recorded albums:

25 studio
9 compilation
12 live

They were all in fact recorded... they didn't say studio albums.

Then again, this is all speculation on my part.
actually I've had a promoter tell me that. Thus the reason for getting really good seats the day of the show.

Also once the stage gets set up someitmes you realize you didn't need to not sell certain sections - that they aren't going to be behind sound/ light equipment etc..
another aspect that was overlooked..
some Promotions count it a "sell out" if there are still singles left..

I don't call him a sellout, I call him a product whore....he'll put his name on anything......salsa at Walmart? Oh, please just say NO, Jimmy!

But who can blame him? Wouldnt you jump at every chance to put an extra buck in your pocket? (even if you are a millionaire?)

I guess so but I just keep wondering where the guy with the hundred dollar pick up went and if he wasn't putting so much energy into making $$ could he be writting "those songs" again. Probably not, that might be a young mans job that only happens when you're hungry.

I think Jimmy still puts a ton of effort into his shows. His "new" album is not that old . . . even if he only wrote one song on it he is still recording.

Interesting thread.

My favorite Jimmy songs are A Salty Piece of Land, Cowboy in the Jungle, Wino and I Know, Last Mango in Paris, Wondering Where the Lions Are (I think Jimmy's version is better than the original)...

So many of Jimmy's songs are about reflection, wistfulness, getting away from it all...

However, the crap (and I think it is crap) that sells are Margaritaville, Brown Eyed Girl, Cheeseburger in Paradise and anything with a Margaritaville logo and a stupid parrot on the t shirt. The tequila that's making him even richer is swill. When Jimmy played in Hong Kong, he donated Patron Tequila, not Margaritaville Tequila. I think that says a lot.

However, why fault Jimmy for knowing what sells and making a fortune. If people are stupid enough to buy a $30 t shirt (that costs $3 to make) just because it has a drawing of a parrot drinking a margarita - good for Jimmy.

I am kind of embarrassed when people hear that I am going to a show and they ask me "do you dress up like a parrot" because the whole "party hearty" "parrothead to the extreme" part of Jimmy's fan base is so trite and hackneyed. Yet those seem to be the people who go crazy hearing Cheeseburger in Paradise. I guess if they enjoy that and keep the stadiums filled, I should just be grateful that it's still worthwhile for Jimmy Buffett to keep playing shows.

As to whether he's sold out as far as his music's concerned, the last studio CD had some real gems. BIBO, Hula Girl at Heart, Dukes on Sunday, I think are some of the best songs he's released in a long time and keep alive that spirit of wistfulness.

Anyway. Is Jimmy shilling a lot of crap that I wouldn't even think of buying? Of course. Do I still get really fired up going to shows and hearing Cowboy in the Jungle, Last Mango, Schoolboy Heart, Far Side of the World, etc...Absolutely.

especially those jerks who own numerous private jets and boats . . . huge homes and cars . . . and then preach about the environment.

If I were a multi - millionare I would own all those things but I would't be a hypocrit about it. I certainly wouldn't throw my money around to get yacht licenses on places like Nantucket where there is an ordinance to how big and to how many boats and planes you can harbor here . . . or park in handicap spots outside liquor stores. Ah that wacky Jimmy . . . I will still go to your shows . . .

The last shirt I got was when T, TH & S came out - it was free, with the record, because of Mailboat. Before that...I bought some post cards to send to my dad. I haven't bought a JB shirt since 1991 I think, The Outpost Tour.

No, I do have a Rece$$ion Rece$$ shirt somewhere. That was it. I bought shirts from Somewhere Over China through 1992, with the occasional hat or tour book or pin. I refuse to buy any of the shirts in or from Margaritaville. The only thing I will buy there are books and records. And maybe a calendar. And seeing that I somehow lost Farside and Changes I'll just go get them at a used record store somewhere. I'm not buying them new again - he's already got my money once!

And, ha ha, I'm with you on the being careful about who I tell. I don't tell ANYONE. I don't participate in the whole parrothead thing. Hell, I was there before it started. I dropped out of it. I'm just a fan of the music. Everyone else can have all that fun. And I'm glad they do.

Oh, back to the original bit - when people say they've got this many albums out, they usually only talk about NEW albums as in studio albums. A new live album is just that - recorded performances. A studio album is new - new songs. You can count whatever live albums you want as classics - as far as how many albums Jimmy has out, in the classical sense of that expression, it's 26 LPs (not including the soundtrack to Rancho Deluxe).

And as far as how many comps he has out as far as being original - Before The Salt, Songs You Know By Heart, Before The Beach and Meet Me In Margaritaville. And if you wanted to get real technical you could count the box set as 4 comps plus the promo comp that went out for that, which I have and it's very nice.
