I have a 70-200. And that gets heavy at times. Take a look at the first photo on this page (not the one of the lens): This is too funny.
No kidding. I have the 70-300 IS...and I've missed plenty of shots simply because I can't hold the camera up any longer, especially when I'm shooting at an up angle. :-? I tried the 400 in the store and it was just a bear too.

That picture is a riot!! I'm bookmarking that page.

I am amazed at how many folks I see using that 500 as a handheld, including one TINY little asian woman during waterfowl migration last year. No doubt she was a pro. I swear the lens weighed more than she did.
The 70-200IS is 3 lbs. Unfortunately, my arms are still flabby.

:o Dang..! The 500 is 8.5 lbs. :o

I love my Canon....I even bought a waterproof case for it and use it scuba diving. We've also used the waterproof case at the beach, skiing, a concert where it rained....and many other events. I can do everything with the case on it that I can without. All the pics on my Critterville Cove pages were taken with the camera.

If and when it's time to replace this camera, it'll be another Canon.

We have both a Fuji and a Canon and we love them both.
I have always been a Canon person.

Here is a great site to go for info and reviews
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/

Probably the best Camera site out there

I have a Nikon D40 and love it although it is not compact. I have a friend who orders everything from this site - they have their physical location in nyc.

THanks.

That site is great. I was at Circuit City tonight and the salesgirl listened to what I was looking for and recommended the Panasonic TZ5. I thought it was too small and that I wanted a more heavy-duty camera, but DPReview gives it a Highly Recommended...so I might have to get it and its on sale online for only $289
