Couldn't find a picture of Jimmy jumping.

Jimmy's a helluva businessman, but if I'm going to pay to watch a Buffett make money - it's gonna be Warren.

Has Jimmy Jumped the Shark?

Probably, but who cares? This is The Year of We're Still Here Too!

Our entire entertainment culture jumped the shark.

No, no, no, no, no. Jimmy has NOT jumped the shark... not even close.

Yep, it costs $$ to go see him, but for that weekend, I have more fun I can almost anywhere else. A couple of days in a fun city, tailgating all afternoon, and Jimmy on stage that night... it's about the only time I can really let myself "off the leash." No kids along to worry about, no people from work watching for me to behave badly, and it seems like EVERYBODY is in a good mood and glad to see you.

So again, yes, it costs some $$ to go see Jimmy. But it's cheaper than therapy and (for me at least) a lot more effective. :D :D :pirate: :pirate: :pirate:

considering that I could take a week end vacation for what I pay to see him every year, (counting transportation, food, drink, tickets, parking passes and props for the parking lot) and I'm already looking forward to next year, has he jumped the shark? not in my opinion.

Utley's. it's all pre-laid tracks and he stubs the macros from the keyboard.

I like his newer recordings, so musically I would say no. His concerts are not as entertaining to me, maybe I'm growing up or the concerts seem too recycled to me. His branding of bad products is shark jump worthy. Since I like him as a singer/songwriter, I'll say shark not jumped yet, but close. As a businessman, I appreciate his efforts to maximize his earning potential, but that shark was jumped last year.

I totally agree -he is major mental therapy for me!!! I so look forward to all the fun in the lots & then the show and I will be the first person to cry when he retires  No one is breaking anyone's arms to pay the $$ to go see him -hey I paid the same amount for Neil Diamond tkts and I don't even get the party in the lot!!-it is not Jimmy who sets the price of the ticket!!!! Please stop the bitchin already

A bunch of our 'crew' are old Deadheads, they're always surprised more people aren't selling shirts in the lots. Did the fans Ever do that for Buffett?

Fans don't, but capitalist's do... I've seen 'Jimmy Buffet' shirts at many of the shows I've gone to over the years.

So what? The band also gets a nice paycheck out of those gigs.
oversaturation of overpriced gimicky products - check
If people didn't buy them, they wouldn't be available, so someone must like the stuff
increasing number of cover songs in the live show - check
I'd prefer fewer covers too, but it's a creative call on JB's part to make his show what he wants it to be; we gotta take it or leave it....
misleading fans - check
There's way more to this story than we know....
recycled show - check
Of his hundreds of thousands of fans, maybe a few hundred or at most a few thousand see multiple shows. Most artists don't mix it up all that much. We notice JB's setlists because, unlike any other major artist, he broadcasts every show for FREE.
making albums where the majority of songs are not his - check
So what? George Strait is a bonafide superstar. Country Music Hall of Fame. ALL of his songs are written by someone else.
license to chill - check
Huh? Musically, I thought it was a tight album, and I liked it. If you didn't like it, that's okay, but musically it doesn't contribute to "jumped the shark" IMHO.
re-releasing sykbh on live dvds and cds - check
At the risk of repeating myself, if there were no market....
firing tc and amy - check
bringing landreth and payne instead of tc and amy - check
While I love TC and Amy (and Heather and Louisa), Jimmy made a creative decision to change the makeup of the band. This isn't new; it just hadn't happened for a long time. There have been a LOT of CRB members who have come and gone. The band has been changed quite a bit, mostly back when JB was in what some would consider the more creative periods of his career. In fact, according to the CRB page (http://www.buffettnews.com/resources/coralreeferband/) there have been over 40 touring CRB members over the years, not counting special guests or studio session players. Some left the band because they wanted to. Others were gone because Jimmy made creative changes....
lawsuits -checks
How many times does it have to be said? The law requires that he "vigorously defend" his trademarks, or he will lose them. That means lawsuits. It can't be helped....
