Hmmm...since I *am* a Trop Rock artist, would that make me Stage 11?z-man wrote:I don't have a Coconut telegraph subscription![]()
But I still will claim Stage 9
Is it Stage 10 when you listen to all the other Trop Rock acts more than Buffett?

Originally I put myself at stage 6. However, I wish I could change my vote, because the more I read stage 9 that fits me better. I've been a Buffett fan for a little over a year, and I went from 0 to 60 really quick.

Nah, there is nothing wrong with you. I sure don't want to hit stage 8, and if I ever do, I hope I will be there for only a few minutes.
Hey, once we make a vote in a pole is that our only vote, or can we change it after a certain period of time?

Re: What stage of being a parrothead are you
Hi, my name is, Dan and I listen to Buffett music. I am definitely a Stage 9.
When I was dating my wife, she lived 12 hours away, and I listened to Jimmy all the way there and all of the way home.
My license plate is F1NS UP (formerly F1NZ UP, hence my screen name), along with the beach theme on my back windshield. My friends know I am a Parrot Head, but they don't quite get it, and I just see that as their loss. Jimmy is my escape (as he says, Margaritaville is anywhere you want it to be).
And it's funny the comment about God's Own Drunk. Jimmy played Louisville last month and I was sitting next to a big-time SYKBH fan, and his date was so impressed. Well Jimmy started playing God's Own Drunk and the guy was like 'what is this song?' Of course I couldn't help myself and sang almost the whole song and his date just gave me this look like...well it's that look we've all seen from someone who doesn't get it. Lol.

At stage nine and we will be indoctrinating two of our keets at Jones Beach this summer. They think they are going to an Amway demonstration.

Re: What stage of being a parrothead are you
But seriously, folks, I was trying to remember how I fell off the deep end for Jimmy Buffett, and I realized that it was when my sister-in-law bought Live at Wrigley Field (DVD) for us for Christmas one year, and I was absolutely blown away by the fun that everyone was having! It was then that my husband and I knew that we HAD to see Jimmy live. We have been to many, many concerts by many awesome artists in our baby-boomer lives, but Jimmy beats them all, including Springsteen and Sinatra, IMHO.sistergoldenhair wrote:At stage nine and we will be indoctrinating two of our keets at Jones Beach this summer. Re: What stage of being a parrothead are you
The problem with these *stages*
is that they are all geared to
people who didn't discover
Jimmy's music until after
the Yellow Album.
There is no stage for anyone who saw
Jimmy in concert in the 1970s
and who bought and owned
8-tracks of his music
and later vinyl
and later CDs
and visited the Florida Keys
before there was ever a Margaritaville Store
(much less a Cafe and franchises
scattered across the globe) and
who remembers when the best
t-shirts were made by Caribbean Soul
and who remembers Come Monday
being played on the radio because
it was actually charting
and who watched Jimmy lose his
mustache and then his hair
and remembers fun as hell
tailgating that involved beer
and ice luges and frisbees and the
pure essence of summer and ....
... and then finds themselves 35 years later
reading a *stage survey* that
defines a parrothead only by categories
that begin for those
who arrived at the party
fashionably late.

wSPs. I'll add that when I first saw Jimmy, you couldn't even call it a concert. It was just another kid with a guitar in a bar. Or at least, that's what you thought until he started to sing. He lit up the place with his 1,000 watt smile. No matter how many adult beverages people had, after about 3-4 songs/covers, they'd start paying attention. Jerry Jeff and Willis Alan had that effect on people, too. Never saw Townes, but heard he was good at capturing a room, too. Maybe that's why, at 60, I go to the carnival. I'm waiting for the acoustic set because I'm still in love with the boy and his guitar.surfpirate wrote:The problem with these *stages*

Re: What stage of being a parrothead are you
I would never consider putting myself at any stage even close to the two of you. I was a huge Elvis fan in the early days and even more so a fan of the Beatles. I think I have seen Hard Day's Night at least 3 dozen times. But when I am feeling melancholy it is Jimmy's music that I listen to or I put on one of his videos. So I'm not sure what stage that makes me but my feeling is better late than never to have discovered him.East Texas Parrothead wrote:wSPs. Re: What stage of being a parrothead are you
Color me at Stage 10....I credit Buffett for introducing me to Radio Margaritaville, which introduced me to John Frinzi, Scott Kirby, Hugo Duarte and a few other Trop Rock artists......which opened my eyes to the whole Trop Rock genre.
I listen to Trop Rockers a lot more than I do Jimmy these days.....but when I need a pick me up, it's his music I turn to, and I give him credit for introducing me to the greatest friends anyone would be lucky to have.
