Apparently it was proven/admitted, the Chinese had an underage medalist in gymnastics in the 2004 games and the IOC allowed her to keep her medal.

Why wouldn't the Chinese continue to cheat for the 2008 games with the IOC essentially "sanctioning" the cheating?

If they are going to have the rule, they should enforce it.
They'll strip medals for other rule violations, but not this?

The whole question of whether there should even be an age requirement is another matter. :-?
This rule totally confuses me. I thought there was a women's swimmer for the US that was 15 years old. She was a back stroker. Can't remember the name.

The IOC are a strange bunch of people. Anything and everything they do should be questioned.
She could have been 15 and still 'legal'.
From what I understand, you have to turn 16 in the year of the olympics :-?

Different sports have different age requirements, and some have no requirements at all.

Anyone else have to google Shannon Miller to remember what she looked like when she was competing :D
Every time I see the Claritin commercial, I'm puzzled.......

She has grown into a beautiful poised woman doing commercials

I just saw it and I still don't understand it---neither did the TV announcers

What a pile of crap the gymnastics scoring has been.

The one Chinese girl fell on her knees in vault. The American lands both of hers. The Chinese girl wins

The uneven bar contest was just as crooked.

This whole thing has been a mess. The judges they relied on for the tie breaker have never even had a gymnastics medalist....

Not to mention why is gymnastic not allowed to have ties for medals, but the other sports are? This is an International Olympic Committee rule not even the governing body? What a load of BS.

The good news is, the U.S. gets even on the balance beam tonight!

Not trying to spoil anything, but I just read the results.

Ugh, are you kidding me? Not that they fell out of the ugly tree or anything, but Misty May-Trainor and Kerri Walsh are much easier on the eyes.

I agree, but this isn't the first time a post has given away the results :)

What I don't understand is why the US isn't protesting this crap in gymnastics. It's not bad form or poor sportsmanship to challenge something that is clearly wrong, like the vault scores. If protests aren't filed and the judging not challenged, this kind of stuff will continue. Why would anyone even want to compete for the US in gymnastics in the future if their own organization doesn't step up and show the level of support that they should? :-?

No kidding. I learned the hard way that once it's live on the east coast, no one cares that the west coast hasn't seen anything yet. :-? But Mal did ask that spoilers be posted in white.
