9/6 Comcast/Tweeter/Great Woods-Crackdown on Drinking
I heard a terrible rumour that since Comcast has taken over, they have been cracking down on drinking?
The first story I heard was a co workers friend got arrested, I thought he probably was drunk a-hole. Then I heard similiar stories from other folks. And another person said they weren't going to bother to go because it is so tight?
Anyone know anything?
it will be my actual 39th birthday, and I would be very sad.

If the only reason they were going to go was to get drunk then I have to say I'm glad they're staying home. There's a whole thread on this somewhere I'm sorry I can't direct you, maybe a mod will

It's true. They're cracking down in the general parking lots, but they pretty much leave the premium parking lots alone. It has nothing to do with the change to the Comcast Center (it's the same ownership, just a different name); it's the Mansfield police that are cracking down.
Just be relatively low key with the drinking and try not to draw the police and security details attention.

First of all there is another thread for the Mansfield shows. Second of all
. . . for the 14,561st time . .
this is true for some acts but it is not true for the Jimmy Buffett concerts. Mansfield Police have deemed Buffett tailgating too much to enforce which means if you look 21 you will be left alone.
JUST LIKE ANY OTHER YEAR . . . MY GOD!
Go do whatever you do to chill out (I like tequilla and sex) and go to Great Woods and have a good time . . . please.

TommyBahama wrote:i agree with you Jon...but if they have more problems with underage drinking there...then you may see a crack down....it's getting pretty out of hand and i'm sure the venue doesn't want to be liable!!
Lets use the New England Patriots as a model. 50,000 people are there by 9AM for every 1PM game. Never once has a state trooper or otherwise bothered us. Never; and I see tons of kids drinking everything from beer from kegs, from bottles, hard liquor. We park at the Outlaw BBQ . . . we know the guy that owns the place and he doesn't care about being liable for anything. Why? Because the state troopers and local police deem drinking in public on Patriots games something that just can't be enforced. It can't.
Same for Buffett. They can crack down all they want for every show but we all know that what happens at Buffett can barely be contained let alone regulated. If the state troopers and local police felt it was a problem they simply wouldn't let Buffett perform and, yes, they have that authority. The fact that he is playing his two shows at Great Woods tell me that all will be normal.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Can't compare the 2....you don't get under aged kids going to the tailgate before a game to get bombed!!!.1 reason alone...losing your season ticket rights!!!..recent concerts, there is a trend toward under aged drinking and problems....football games tailgating is also 3-4 hours...Buffett you are looking at about 10 hours of drinking...big difference...maybe comcast doesn't care...but god forbid...one underage kid got drunk there and got killed or killed someone!!!..then they will think otherwise!!!..it's a problem...you may not think so....and it ruins it for the rest of us!!!...i hope you're right Jon.....but you have to admit it's gotten out of control at the venues up there the last few weeks!!...and how do you stop it!!!

1. I made it point in my post to state that underage kids do drink at Pats games alot. (but you are right about a 4 hour tailgate and a 10 hour tailgate . . . good point).
2. I grew up in Chelmsford, MA and we all went to Great Woods alot back when it was called Great Woods . . .
I think that certain tailgates can be enforced. Like DMB and Pearl Jam. Certain tailgates cannot like Buffett and NFL games . . . the cops do what they can but for Buffett I think that they would just not allow him to play if they felt it would be a problem . . . the only difference is that they will double the number of police in the lot and crack down on people who look young (we don't have to worry . . .

You gotta use some common sense.... Definitely don't wanna be the knucklehead who's chugging from an open bottle of rum, just about daring the police to do something about it.... they will..... Discreet and in control, and not serving anyone underage and I don't think there will be a problem.TommyBahama wrote:Can't compare the 2....you don't get under aged kids going to the tailgate before a game to get bombed!!!.1 reason alone...losing your season ticket rights!!!..recent concerts, there is a trend toward under aged drinking and problems....football games tailgating is also 3-4 hours...Buffett you are looking at about 10 hours of drinking...big difference...maybe comcast doesn't care...but god forbid...one underage kid got drunk there and got killed or killed someone!!!..then they will think otherwise!!!..it's a problem...you may not think so....and it ruins it for the rest of us!!!...i hope you're right Jon.....but you have to admit it's gotten out of control at the venues up there the last few weeks!!...and how do you stop it!!!

I hope so....and drinking and driving 10-13 years ago is so different from today...we didn't have spot checks to worry about....i just don't want to see a problem were next year they crack down....i just have a problem with it..i know to many people that have lost lives or killed someone due to it!!!drunkpirate66 wrote:Two things . . .TommyBahama wrote:Can't compare the 2....you don't get under aged kids going to the tailgate before a game to get bombed!!!.1 reason alone...losing your season ticket rights!!!..recent concerts, there is a trend toward under aged drinking and problems....football games tailgating is also 3-4 hours...Buffett you are looking at about 10 hours of drinking...big difference...maybe comcast doesn't care...but god forbid...one underage kid got drunk there and got killed or killed someone!!!..then they will think otherwise!!!..it's a problem...you may not think so....and it ruins it for the rest of us!!!...i hope you're right Jon.....but you have to admit it's gotten out of control at the venues up there the last few weeks!!...and how do you stop it!!!

2. I grew up in Chelmsford, MA and we all went to Great Woods alot back when it was called Great Woods . . .. . . this was like 1993 - 1995 (year I graduated high school). I think underage drinking has either leveled off or has gone down since we were there for a half dozen or more shows back in the day. I am basing this on observation and will admit that I really don't know. It just seems that way. We used to get tanked before the River Raves and Lollapalooza . . . I mean blatantly. It was ridiculous.

But underaged kids that do aren't there for the show...they know it's a excuse where they can drink and pretty much not get caught!!!.....i'm also talking about underaged..not adults..who can't hold there own and do stupid things!!!...they should know better!!!...and most of them have tickets to the show and not go to get drunk!!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:You gotta use some common sense.... well that being said I am all for well planned fun and I have seen few problems at Buffett tailgates (anywhere) and less on the road after. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Massachusetts.

Tommy they don't know better because those kids get their first drinking experiences with their peers rather than under adult supervision. I too know people who aren't here because of drinking and driving but in my experience they were all teenagers who couldn't drink at home or a friends place so they drank out in some secluded place where they may not get caught then tried to drive home...
Kids en masse getting trashed at concerts, college, or secluded places where they have to drive to get home is an American phenomenum. We made alcohol a rite of passage in this country and it is human nature for kids to want to be adults and we have placed adulthood very high in age. Places in this world where kids learn to drink with adults and it is not a rite of passage they don't have any of the problems we have in this country. Either we move to prohibition and make the penalty death like in muslim countries, lower the age of drinking, or resolve ourselves that many kids will die as they learn to drink with thier peers.
Whoa, that's way too serious a topic. So who's wearing coconut bra's on Saturday?
