For those of you in the Denver area looking for something to do besides watching the convention, I just got this in an email.

Mary McBride to Play Opening Event at the Democratic Convention in Denver on Sunday, August 24
Mary will be playing the Democratic Convention at the opening event hosted by James Carville, Donna Brazille and John Laroquette on Sunday, August 24. The event will benefit the Friends of New Orleans and will feature Mary along with RANDY NEWMAN, IRMA THOMAS, MARVA WRIGHT, MARCIA BALL, the VOICE OF THE WETLANDS ALL-STARS (Tab Benoit, Cyril Neville, Anders Osborne, and others), and a one-time only reunion with members of the original METERS.
The same line-up will perform at the Belly Up in Aspen, CO on Wednesday, August 27.
For more details on these shows, check out Mary's new and improved website - www.marymcbride.com

I've seen Mary McBride twice and she's really good. Both times she closed the show with her band playing "Honky Tonk Women" while she sang "Amazing Grace". Somehow it works.

That's EXACTLY what it's doing, Ravi.

Look at the map.. I-25 (runs north/south) from I-70 to 6th Ave.. runs right out of downtown..

In a completely unrelated train of thought. I knew I would love to live in CO for some reason, and here it is printed on your map. You have a national wildlife refuge and an aresenal colocated. Go in, get your weapon of choice and have at it.

And thanks, Larry. Can't get into the convention, nor do I want to get anywhere close to the downtown area that whole week.

I hear ya g/f - it's the back way for me all week and if our parking spaces are filled on Monday I'm taking the bus in the rest of the week. The only thing I'm worried about being on 14th is its a straight shot from Civic Center Park to the Convention Center.

I'm actually excited about it coming - it's gonna create a lot of energy downtown but I'm still hoping the bad crap doesn't happen. We hired security for our 3 buildings downtown (read: employment for Happy Shark  ) just to keep peeps out who don't belong or aren't doing business there.

Just found out we might get 3 tix to the Obama acceptance. I'm on the fence about going or not. A historic, memorable event, yes, but I'm also askeeered. Victoria really wants to go, though.

I think you should go. If you're too afraid to let Victoria see an historic moment, the bad guys have won.....

I'm thinking/hoping those sorts will never make it inside the convention center, and will be quickly rounded up and locked up by Denver's finest if they come into the area at all....

These events can be done right with the correct organizers in charge. I remember being very cynical about the '84 Olympics in L.A. thinking there was no way it was going to work. Peter Uberoff was in charge and did an amazing job. Our freeways were clear and our bus systems ran smoothly. I would welcome any large scale event in So. Cal. if he was in charge again.

Mal, don't pass on this opportunity to show Victoria the hope and courage of a future that does not just submit, but stands up to fear tactics.
We've had to experience enough of that in the past 7 years... :-? :-? :-?
...and it's the only bargaining chip the GOP can try to sell in this campaign

No matter what the outcome this November, that is going to be an historic event 8) :D

While I'm very proud of all the local businesses and workers who put this all together, I find myself   at the money that was spent, all the electronics and HVAC that's being used to put this circus act on.

We were talking about the logistics if we only got 2 tickets instead of 3 and who would go. Since I know Victoria really, really wants to go (she's little Miss, "I know Obama wouldn't pick Hillary as a running mate because he's smarter than that.") I'd rather have her have her daddy there to protect her than me (who is increasingly not a pleasant person in crowded situations). Plus, we might not be able to get a sitter for Tony, so even w/ 3 tix, we might only use 2 (which would leave us with an extra....)

We won't even know until early next week if Matt will get the tix.
