"Digiswitch" Converter Boxes - anyone have one yet

Post by Desdamona »

OK, it's 183 days away, but it is coming, so I was wondering if anyone had
pursued acquiring a digital-to-analog converter box for their old rabbit-eared
television. We have DirecTV for our primary television viewing, but the TV on
the boat will need a box.

Tell me what you know!

I've already applied for my "TV $40 welfare coupon" here:

My kitchen tv is the only one not on cable, and my coupon came last week-now I have to track down a converter box!

I picked up one for my Dad and one for home on the chance we take a TV onto the patio or somewhere. Had to wait for them to restock them (Meijer or Walmart, I forget), but once they did they had a lot of them. Used the coupons, they look just like a credit or gift card.

Tried one out, they're pretty basic, just like the old cable TV boxes from years ago. One interesting fact, if you punch in a local channel that's already broadcasting digital, you can get onscreen info about the program and program grids just like you do with satellite now. Our channel 10 was actually 10.1, the station also broadcast other programming on 10.2 and 10.3. Reception wasn't too great with my rabbit ears, but they're gradually increasing the digital signal while decreasing the analog. Perfect picture or nothing at all.

No cable or satelite at my house.....don't watch TV much so we have a couple rabbit ears. I used the $40 off coupons from the governent so the units were 19.99 + tax each. Picked em up at Best Buy.

I checked out the reviews on the brands offered before buying. The brand that scored higher was Insigna. Apex did not was not well liked.

Hooked up quick easy and no problem, I get more TV stations and the reception is much clearer. As Scott mentioned the station numbering is much different we have several for channel 9 - up to 9.5. that was a surprise.

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that the $40 coupons are only good for 90 days from the date they are mailed to you.

There was a story on the news a while back about people who had ordered the coupons, but were unable to find the boxes until after their coupons had expired.
