Racism is so 20th century.
They had an African-American candidate for governor in 2006 (his name happens to be Lynn Swann-THE Lynn Swann), and he was soundly defeated.
OH WAIT-I forgot!
He had an "R" after his name.
How dare he! What a race-traitor.

ah....the race card (actually hate that term by the way)!! If I don't vote for/support Obama, I am a racist? That seems to be a common reply to nonsupport of Obama.buffettbride wrote:Are people still so freakin' racist in this country that the thought of a black president is that much of a problem? No. I can name three off the top of my head that I would campaign for regardless of which party nominated them. Are people still so freakin' racist in this country that the thought of a black president is that much of a problem?
JC Watts, Colin Powell and Jerome G. Cooper.

It's certainly not an issue for me. I wish people on both sides would STFU about race and use the time to talk to me about issues (which I'm not hearing nearly enough of.....buffettbride wrote:Are people still so freakin' racist in this country that the thought of a black president is that much of a problem? There has been method to their madness.
Much of those large Republican deficits (and debt) resulted from cutting taxes to get elected to office while simultaneously 'giving' money to their friends in the military-industrial complex.
It's an old formula that works very well: START A WAR - GET FILTHY RICH.

Then there's those of us with JOBS who don't worry about the economy.flyboy55 wrote:There has been method to their madness.

But, for those who like to worry about it, here's ANOTHER novel idea-
CUT TAXES FOR ALL TAXPAYERS, AND HAVE THE C.S.ERS IN WASHINGTON

G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T
S-P-E-N-D-I-N-G!!!

I didn't bring up the race card. It was in response to the idea that even if elected, he might not make it to inauguration because of assassination risk (due to race...).MammaBear wrote:ah....the race card (actually hate that term by the way)!! I should hope that people who don't support him do so because they don't like his politics. It's no different than saying I won't vote for Bushy because he's from Texas or something.
It is really quite sad that we've let white men run our country for 200 years. I love white men, don't get me wrong, but I'm tired of vanilla!

If the (R) party was smart, they'd be running an uberconservative black dude. Oh wait, Condi Rice already has a job.

Wow....talk about a racist comment....but, of course, according to you, race should have nothing to do with the election....hhhummmm....interestingbuffettbride wrote:I didn't bring up the race card. Making Obama look Unpatriotic
Bush = bad on the economy. Bad economy = lower interest rate on debt. Me = lots of debt!! Bush = McCain = little economic recovery = continued lower interest rates = one more taxpayer just holding his head above water...because I sure don't think I'm ever going to see a tax cut that benefits me. No "race issues" here! <giggle>

Re: Making Obama look Unpatriotic
Just curious, but how is lower interest rates on debt a bad thing? If I owe money and the interest rate is lower, that means my payments are lower, which means I spend less money on debt service, which means I have more money to save or invest or spend on other things, which is good for the economy. I'm not an economist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn.Allen B. wrote:Bush = bad on the economy. Bad economy = lower interest rate on debt. Me = lots of debt!! .....yeah....that's exactly what I'm saying. It's a silver-lining. While it doesn't apply to fixed rates, flexible-interest loans do see a benefit.

He made a good point in his speech last night that when you have no new ideas to present and no positive record to stand on you use fear and attacks to keep people from looking at something different. Unfortunately it's worked too well in the past. And I'm done looking at these political threads, they give me heartburn.Tequila Revenge wrote:I think I saw an American flag pin on his lapel last night.
