I can see your point but have to disagree. If an 18 year old is MAN or WOMAN enough to risk their lives to serve our country they should be able to drink IMHO
And they're still required to register with Selective Service, aren't they? Just in case...
yep
Only 18 year old males, not females.
yeah, what's that about. And what does happen IF the boys don't register.

Another point no one has mentioned is we also have the right to vote at 18.
And based on some of the results, a lot of people were drinking before they went to the polls.

That explains the 4,529 write-in votes for "Boobies".

I voted yes. If one is considered enough of an adult to fight for his country, buy cigarettes or go rent "Her first Gang Bang" on dvd then why not lower the drinking age?

When I started law school I was way over draft age (39) but in order to be eligible for federally funded student aid I had to prove I was registered with Selective Service. Women students didn't have the same requirement. In my opinion, that's illegal gender based discrimination but oddly enough none of the womens' rights group seem to have a problem with it.

In Canada in all provinces and territories except Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, the legal age is 19 for drinking. 18 in those three.

I'm opposed to any "drinking age" it is the responsibility of the parents to raise their children, not the government's. If a parent allows their child to enjoy a glass of wine in a celebratory event, they shouldn't be prohibited by some governmental interference. Once 18 these children are considered adults and again our government shouldn't be legislating behavior. I started drinking when I was 14 in quite an irresponsible way. I guess the rational brain cells died first.

So.... should an 18 year old be allowed to legally drink?

I say yes.
I agree...add to that list that if you commit a crime, you are held accountable as an adult...but you can't have a beer???

Just so stupid!

I know in Texas it used to be that way. You could order your underage child a glass of wine in a restaurant, it served to you and you give you child the glass.

When I left the authorities were beginning to really crack down on the law. More parents were beginning to be held accountable for their underage kids drinking.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
