My excitement about going to Great Woods went away after the first time I went there. I simply do not see the appeal.

The lack of buzz here I think has part to do with the ticket prices, also people used to come from all over for the show but with airline prices, gas prices and high ticket prices less are taking the trip.

Not having Matt with his RV this year also has hindered the planning process, in year's past the RV was the spot everyone knew were to meet.

I think GW will be a packed and as great as usual it just won't have the same BN flavor as year's past. Doesn't really matter to me, I went to GW for my first Buffett show 6 year's before I came to BN and have never had a bad time. I am looking forward to it.

My wife and I purchased tickets, and got some really great pavillion seats, but have decided at the last minute not to go for the following reasons...

1) We live on Long Island, and between the tickets, hotel, food, ferry and gas, the cost of the weekend would be approximately $1200-$1500.

2) A 250 gallon tank of heating oil just cost me a grand.

3) The real estate business is LOUSY, with no real signs of improvement.

4) The show I just saw at Jones Beach was nothing special...almost 100% SYKBH.

Just doesn't make sense.

B.

I don't know if I can agree that the Jones Beach show was 100% SYKBH (maybe he played 100% of the SYBKH songs though...)

Just got back from Jones Beach and I got to tell you that literally dozens of people I met during the tailgate were fired up for Great Woods and that many of them were calling Jone Beach "Great Woods South" and "using it as a warm up for the Great Woods main event . . . " and I mean MANY of them. Whoever is not excited for Great Woods stay home. No one will miss you. I can' t even begin to describe how excited I am. I have posted this in year's past . . . the fact that Buffettnews New England representation dies down in the summer is because here are out living the Jimmy Buffett Parrot Head lifestyle. It is just that simple. Me? I am rocking this weekend at the Chicken Box and then I got me an afternoon Red Sox game on wednesday and then Great Woods to unofficially end my summer thursday - saturday and I got to tell you that life is good and the buzz around my little island is huge because the people are a phlocking . . . I might just drive to Great Woods before the Sox game and do me a shot . . .

I can't wait. So glad back at Great Woods. Gillete parking lot was fun, but the show was tough (so far away). I just hope they don't pack us in like sardines like they did 2 years ago - it was tough to walk around.

I already ordered my tshirts!!!

I actually looked it all up and 16 out of 28 songs weren't from SYKBH, yes some were covers but there were also some songs that aren't done every year either.

In the not so immortal words of Pete Carroll... I'm pumped and jacked!
At a minimum, it's a day off, which is always a good thing!

i'm psyched for it.....But i think with the rising food and gas prices and job losses....people(not all) aren't willing to spend the 150.00 (if they can't get lawn)...then throw in hotel room( if traveling from a far)...it's not cheap anymore!!

for me..being a single

Ticket........150.00
Gas..... 80.00
hotel..... 100.00
food/booze..100.00
other............50.00

total 480.00

thats 7 rounds of golf at my course(64 for 18)

the cost of the entire day or weekend is altering plans for most people and if it hasnt yet it will. we used to spend several days up in boston before the shows and this year its just to expensive.the cost of ticket prices and the lack of a really different setlist has also contributed to my family going to less shows.this has been on the rise the last few tours but i really realized this last year with both gillette shows. so this year it was the msg show and the saturday great woods show.no long weekend up in boston which does stink. an overnight stay with 1 show and a group of four is pretty damn expensive:

4 tickets - $600

2 hotel rooms - $ 300

food - $ 150

beverages (beer,wine,soda,water) $100

gas - $120

ferry ride (optional) - $130

TOTAL - $1,400

I think there is still plenty of excitement, but maybe a bit less this year because of ticket prices. My dad (who loves JB in concert) said "no thanks" this year when he saw the $136 ticket price.

"No one will miss you."

Actually this is not true. We have a good many great friends that we have traditionally partied with for as many years as my wife and I have been married (almost ten years now), and who are saddened by our finacially motivated decision.

For the record, the intent of my post was strictly to address some of the circumstances that might cause some people not to spend their cash on a road trip this year. It was most certainly not to cast aspersions on our patron saint, JB.

Actually sir, you are a sad testament to the fact that you can't so much as say anything even tangentially negative on this forum about Jimmy without some putz attacking you.
