Jimmy Buffett references

I was catching some of the convention coverage and flipped over into the middle of an interview with Dick Morris on Neil Cavuto's show, didn't catch who or what he was talking about it was towards the end and he mentioned that old Jimmy Buffett song If The Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me.

If you catch a quick reference to him add to this list and maybe we can start some threads that are interesting. :pirate:

One of our stations here in Boise played a "4 at 5" set of Jimmy last nite. The only reason I heard it was that my Sirius deck got stolen a week back and I am stuck with regular radio...

Middle of the night
If the phone...
Come monday
Ballad of Spider John

Yes, I was shocked as heck...

I even called and thanked them.

Pretty obscure Jimmy songs to be played on terrestrial radio. Nice.

Our local radio has a closet parrothead that plays

Cheeseburger
the 'original' version of
Sunny Afternoon
Uncle Johns Band
Sourthern Cross
Brown Eyed Girl
and closes with Come Monday

at least twice a month during morning drive time....

I put him down on all the donation shoes, socks, and other do-dads you get to fill out when you give a buck to a worthy cause at some retail store. Folks who see it taped to the wall think Jimmy was there !!

In a local assisted living center, where my mother-in-law lives and where the residents are all in their 80s and 90s, I heard the original version of "Margaritaville" playing softly in the hallway over the center's sound system on Sunday. :D

Is it really appropriate to have a song playing in that setting where the lyric is "Wasting away again..."? :(

Well, it's better than a lot of other songs that could have been playing, such as Streisand's "The Way We Were" or that earlier American folk song "Sing low, sweet chariot, coming for to carry me home...." 8)

In the movie, "Knocked Up," the gynecologist says, "If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert!" (or something close to that quote, anyway!)

He was mentioned on the food network show Feasting on Waves. They went to St Barts and went to Le Select which is one of the places that Jimmy supposedly wrote Cheeseburger.

I live in Harford County, MD, we are right across Chesapeake Bay from Kent County, MD (Eastern Shore, rural). WKHS 90.5 is a station owned by Kent Co. Public Schools, but they sometimes pick up feeds from other stations. I can get them in pretty good on some nights, they have a Blues show, and some other trippy kind of stuff that I enjoy on occasion. Well, the other night I tuned in just in time to hear Who's the Blonde Stranger?" How's that for weird?

I was reading a book called "Lottery," a novel about a mentally challenged man in Washington that won the state lottery. His friend who lived on a sailboat said the first thing he needed was a sound system and some music. He helped the lottery winner by gathering up some Beatles, some Rolling Stones, the Dead, "and, of course, Jimmy Buffett!"

That would be right where I'm at.

We love WKHS when it's actually on. Their transmitter got knocked out for a couple of weeks (I think a cow chewed through a cable or something) but we love the guy who does the country show and the doo-wop show.
