Re: New Show
McCain appears to be at odds with his running mate on what he has made one of his biggest issues... pork barrel spending and earmarks:

“We’re not going to spend $3 million of your tax dollars to study the DNA of bears in Montana,” McCain has said during this year’s campaign, referring to a study he’s mocked for years of whether grizzlies need to keep their status as an endangered species.
Palin, meanwhile, has requested $3.2 million to be spent in part researching the “genetics of harbor seals,” in one of the state’s many requests for federal funding of research into Alaska’s fauna.

Palin's town used to bill victims for rape kits
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/e ... titialskip
WASILLA, Alaska — In 2000, Alaska lawmakers learned that rural police agencies had been billing rape victims or their insurance companies $500 to $1,200 for the costs of the forensic medical examinations used to gather evidence. They quickly passed a law prohibiting the practice.
According to the sponsor, Democrat Eric Croft, the law was aimed in part at Wasilla, where now-Gov. Sarah Palin was mayor. When it was signed, Wasilla's police chief expressed displeasure.
"In the past, we've charged the cost of exams to the victims' insurance company when possible," then-chief Charlie Fannon told the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, the local newspaper. "I just don't want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer."
Now that Palin is the Republican nominee for vice president, Democrats such as former Alaska governor Tony Knowles — who signed the rape-kit bill into law and was defeated by Palin in 2006 — are raising the issue to question Palin's commitment to women's issues and crime victims. Palin appointed Fannon after firing his predecessor shortly after she took office in 1996.
In 2000, there were 497 rapes reported in Alaska, FBI statistics show. That's a rate of 79.3 per 100,000 residents, the highest in the nation.

I agree with you there. It's amazing how much stuff people will dig up on a person.buffettbride wrote:Not that I'm a Palin fan or a rape fan or an anti-taxpayer fan, but really, how many rapes happen in Wasilla, AK? I heard an interview on POTUS 08 with the former governor of Alaska yesterday on the way home. He said domestic violence and violence against women is a real issue up there. (Can you spell cabin fever?) He said one of the missions during his tenure was to raise awareness of the issue. No other city in Alaska made victims pay for their kits. He said it would be like asking a robbery victim to pay for fingerprinting.buffettbride wrote:Not that I'm a Palin fan or a rape fan or an anti-taxpayer fan, but really, how many rapes happen in Wasilla, AK? Is that how you'd portray FDR's New Deal which helped revive the country from the Great Depression? or John F. Kennedy's New Frontier which helped shape today's social foundations?...
..ever even heard of these Presidents??

Re: New Show
I want to appoligize for what I posted the first time related to this article, I obviously go this very wrong. It seems that McCain spent sometime celebrating his 70th birthday with Follieri and Davis has a relationship with Follieri through his consulting firm. As Larry clarified, Follieri was the one convicted. Below is the link to the article in The Nation.BFinnsUp wrote:Thanks for clarifying that. Now, if we could just get the two campaigns to admit when they're wrong, we'd be in great shape!

Unfortunately, some have tried to spin "community organizer" into a less than honorable calling, as if making your neighborhood a better place is not a worthwhile endeavor. IMO, "community organizer" and "hockey mom" are probably the two most honorable occupations of any of the candidates.Lightning Bolt wrote:...Those who feel any government sponsorship of social endeavors and solutions is a waste... also believed the World was flat.

Attack Mode
I watched some of these new ads this morning. They do seem like Obama is standing up for himself, but I would not consider them attack ads in the seem vain as the ones from the McCain campaign.
