I too have read and heard that he really wanted to pick Lieberman but was threatened with a floor fight.

Early in the week, Chuck Todd (MSNBC) said that if McCain thought it was 3rd and 4 he would go with Romney and if he felt it was 3rd and 14, he would go with Lieberman.

I get the sense it was the latter, and when it became apparent that Lieberman could not be his choice, he went with Palin.

Politics aside (and my politics are pretty well known), what troubles me most is the decision making process. This is one of if not the most important decision a nominee must make, and he chose someone he had only met once? That puzzles me and troubles me as well.

Fair enough.

Then why did Obama pick Biden? During the primaries, why didn't the DNC give Biden a freaking nickle? Why is Biden all the sudden the real deal? If the Dems REALLY wanted to reach across the aisle, why isn't Biden and Richardson on the same ticket? Fringe left, meet fringe right. :D We do not care what the others of you think. It's a tired old message. Very tired and very old.

I just don't see a bipartisan ticket likely to succeed through the nominating process very easily as great as it sounds. The reality is you look for someone loyal to your party who compliments your skills and adds something to the ticket. I really would have liked Obama to surprise me with his pick, but I understand the reasons he did what he did.

I don't understand the decision to nominate Palin because I really am not sure what it brings to the ticket that wasn't there already. Her pro-life stance is in some ways more severe than McCain's so I don't see that really bringing in any disgruntled Hillary supporters that weren't already there.

Fair enough. So why Biden? What I'm driving at is "It," is NOT really about change, but only winning. The Dems special intrest will be one up an the Rep's special intrest for 4 or 8 years. We the people get SCREWED once again. And for some reason.... we're willing to smile when we take it :P

BTW, would you be interested in a person that took down corrupt executives, oil companies and instituted wide ranging change, even if her daughter got pregnant? We all know Mom and Dad were there that night and for some reason allowed it to happen

TR: Just a thought ... you might want to check the Alaska papers and do some fact-checking on the Palin story we're being sold ... I'm not so sure everything happened like she says ... for balance's sake, look at both sides and then decide if she's the maverick they're building her up to be.

Her daughter's pregnancy is none of my business. I find her interesting, yes, but on many of the issues I consider central to my voting choice, she and I are at polar extremes.

Again, as for Biden--at some level it has to be about winning because you can't hope to change anything if you are not in the position to initiate the change. Yes, he is an insider in terms of his time in the Senate. But if you look at much of his history, including his net worth (compare it to almost any other senator) he is one of the least inside insiders around.

Is it a calculated choice--yes it definitely is, but I think it is one that has reason behind it. I still don't see the reasons behind the Palin choice other than a gutsy move.

That's where I found the story about Wooten. I'm sure the press in Alaska is every bit as fair and objective as any paper in the lower 48 that shakes the hell out of the status quo. You begin to feel there'd be no room for a man like Teddy Roosevelt in today's America.

According to the bio on his Senate website "Obama graduated from Columbia University in 1983, and moved to Chicago in 1985 to work for a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods..."

Where was he for two years?

For a candidate that claims his administration would be built on service and encourages others to enlist, 1983 would have been a great time to enlist.

He missed the boat.
what's wrong with taking time off

She definitely had the righteous 80's hair....

As for her daughter, I really do not consider it a news story. Leave the kid alone.

Wow. A VP who has every man in the country saying, "I'd hit it." Y'all really do think with your willies. Sounds like she went to the Lynn Spears school of parenting, if you ask me.

There's a certain irony in the fact that many of the same people who crucified Lynne Spears are such staunch defenders of Sarah Palin.

Anyhooooooo ..... I guess there's not much left for us independents to do but spend the next two months listening to the foaming-at-the-mouth attack dogs on both sides have their way with the truth. And then enter the voting booth in November secure in the knowledge that we will be choosing between Satan and the Anti-Christ. :-?

I think it was the one-two punch of Britney and Jamie Lynn (mainly Britney) that gave Lynne a bad name. As far as we know, Palin's kids aren't running around at night drugged up and showing their naughty BITS for the whole world to see.

I think it's pretty funny that the people knocking Gov. Palin as not having enough experience to be Vice President are for the most part the same people who are practically wetting their pants at the prospect of an equally inexperienced Sen. Obama being our next President. I think I agree with the great comic strip character Pogo - We have met the enemy and he is us.

I expect to see the cell phone party pics taken by girlfriends to hit the internet
before tonight's keynote speech ... :o

....and the baby's REAL father will have a press conference tomorrow :o :o

Equally inexperienced? What foreign policy experience does she have? And don't say try to make the case that because Alaska is next to Russia that she has foreign policy cred... that's what Cindy McCain tried to say in an interview Sunday. Obama has been on the national stage for 4 years now, and has been on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Senate Committee on Homeland Security.

I'll listen to the claim that Obama is inexperienced... but don't try to say that he is as equally inexperienced as Palin.
