Forget being evacuated into the streets of DC before anybody knew there weren't more planes coming? Nope.
Forget walking home past the Pentagon while it was still burning, seeing the injured being treated on the sidewalk? Nope.
Forget borrowing a stranger's cell-phone to text my mother and tell her I was okay? Nope.
Forget not knowing until well into Wednesday afternoon that all my friends in DC and NYC were okay? Not even close.
Forget the several friends I had who did lose friends and loved ones? Never.
I have lived overseas for the past few years. I wish there were a diplomatic way of telling non-Americans that it really isn't necessary to ask me if this date is significant or if I remember. What a genuinely stupid and insensitive question!
