Is it just me, or does it seem totally appropriate that someone with the screen name "TIKITATAS" would post that picture????tikitatas wrote:

I just had to.
Someone else gave me the moniker on the Tiki Time tour . . . I've often thought of changing my BN name to something a little less "suggestive", but . . . ah, well . . .

Re: "Don't Dance Like Carmen" Question
Cugat was the leader of the house band at the famous Coconut Grove nightclub. He was well known for making the rumba a national dance craze and so the studios decided to put him in the movies to capitalize on this, several times with Carmen Miranda.fenderparrothead wrote:OK, in the verses that begin with "She and old Cougie, my what a pair...", who/what is "Cougie". I've searched the 'net for any reference of "Cougie" with "Carmen Miranda" but all I can find is various sites listing the lyrics to this song. I can't find any connection outside the song.
Anybody have any info on this?
Thanks everyone! Cheers!
He also had a popular TV show in the 50's (think a Latin flavored Lawrence Welk).
By the way, as far as Charo was concerned, the reason she stopped recording for so long was because she semi-retired to take care of Cugat after he had a stroke. And, yes, she was a fantastic guitar player. I saw her play with Chet Atkins on Hee Haw once and she really held her own with him.

I just had to laugh at the choice of words here. My mind works a little odd sometimes.mikemck wrote:as far as Charo was concerned, the reason she stopped recording for so long was because she semi-retired to take care of Cugat after he had a stroke. LOL...Lot of strange stuff went on on Hee Haw. Why, there was this one time that Junior Samples...no, on second thought, let's not go there.
