Does anyone have a good cure for car sickness for dogs? My hound dog, Margarita, gets really sick everytime we attempt to take her for rides in the car or go someplace.

1/2 tablet dramamine about a half hour before you go somewhere.
I had a dog that suffered from HORRID car sickness....she got so sick. It's what the vet recommended and worked like a charm!

Yep...and they have the non drowsy chewable one now.....Poof just chews it up and is fine on trips...

Candied ginger, if the dog will eat it.

Call your vet for the Dramamine dosage- it goes by pound of dog. Also, it tastes horrible- make sure you have something to cover the taste (our dogs thought the Glucosamine supplement was a treat- same with antibiotics).

As a chronic travel sickness sufferer ... these things work best for me ...

Have dog sitting on front seat - will travel better - but the best way to not get travel sick is to be the driver - so you need to send your doggie off to driving school to get its license ..... think about it - you will then have a designated driver as well!

but in all seriousness - I am a chronic sufferer all my life - firstly - travel on an empty stomach. I never get travel sick going to work - but I sometimes do coming home if I have eaten a few hours before coming home - so the empty stomach works. Or dry food only before and during travel. And of course - no dairy - but I imagine that you would not give a dog dairy.

I also ensure a very good cold flow of air on my face - passengers know to wear a jacket when in the car with me ....

How young is the dog? When my dog was a pup she would get car sick but "outgrew" it. Sitting in the front didn't help; in fact she was more apt to get sick in the front seat. You could always tell when she was about to be sick. I think it was all the passing trees and scenery. We helped her overcome it by beginning to take her on very short trips and gradually increase them. Now we can take her on a 5 hour trip with no problems provided we do not let her eat before the trip. We also limit the amount she drinks. We also will take a potty break along the way, although sometimes she just smells the other dog scents in the area rather than potty herself.

I was watching a lifestyle show tonight and the resident vet had his dog there and talked about dog car sickness.

Basically - dont feed on day of trip. Feed well night before and in the evening meal - he got some ginger supplement capsules - opened them up and sprinkled over the dogs meal.

Wonder if that will work for me ... I got a 2 hour drive Sat and back on Sun
