I tried these once, they were actually pretty good. I'm glad to see the problem isn't with the food product, just that the packaging didn't include "whey" in the ingredients.

I'm wondering why a lime-flavored tortilla chip would need to have whey. Whey is a dairy derivative (milk being one of the top 8 allergens and must be clearly labeled on food products).

Most tortilla chips, even flavored ones, are simple corn (masa) flour, water, sea salt, and lime.

WTF is dairy doing in your corn chips, Jimmy?

I don't think it is usually in them, this was an accidental addition.....like they didn't clean the machines after processing a batch of something else that did contain whey b4 mixing the chip dough.

The recall indicates whey was an ingredient in the spice blend but not declared.

Your scenario is worse--bad cleaning processes between food processing batches is a very, very bad thing. I live and breath food labeling because my family has severe food issues. I have to trust, every day, that companies thoroughly clean their lines or label the risk of processing contamination so my kiddos don't get sick.

Regardless, though, whey has no business being in a tortilla chip, spices or not, in the first place.

Perhaps the spices had been mixed on machines that had not been cleaned after a whey mix.....it's kinda amazing they even caught it....think of all the mistakes that get by so many companies and processing plants.....That's probably why so many products have this warning: "this product may have been processed on machines that process products containing peanut oil......."

Maybe someone wanted to give Little Miss Muffett an on-the-go source of whey... I bet she spilled her bowl when that spider showed up!

I guess we'll see when there's a revised label. If it has whey in the ingredients then it is supposed to be there. If it has a "processed in a facility with..." disclaimer then that's something different.

Many people have to rely on accurate labeling so they don't get sick (and sometimes die) because of mislabeling. I have to read the food label of every single product I buy. It is pretty disgusting what is in some of our food, not to mention what can be hiding in "artifical colors" and "natural flavors." Scary stuff.

I still think it's more likely that someone failed to delcare the whey as an actual ingredient rather than it being a processing issue.

I like the mango stuff. The gold I could do without, but the mango tequila is very good to mix some limeade and mango nectar... mmm.
