Why DOES Jimmy play Paris?

Got to thinking the other day. Why does Jimmy play Paris? (and I know you're going to say, "because he can") But other than that, I'm just curious. It's not like JB has a big European following. Is it because he has a thing for Paris? or is it that he's trying to find a central location for fans from other countries to see a show?
What do you think?

I think he played last year because he just wanted to do something new and "He Went To Paris" was it, following shortly on from Anguilla. He said last year that he was interested to see what kind of audience would show up.
I'm not sure he was expecting quite as many to actually make the trip from the US just for the show. He clearly loves France too.
Reckon this year was because he had so much fun last time and wants to put a dvd together.
There probably is also an element of accessibilty for we Europeans - there were folk from all over, Spain, Germany, Ireland, lots of English.
It was so much fun, it really is a special gig (you should see 300+ Parrotheads partying for two days in a Paris side street) and on Saturday they (meaning the band and crew) were so up for it it was electric.
The Parisians have never seen anything like it!

He might not have such a big European following but we are grateful he played Paris otherwise we would not have got to see him and certainly not so close. This was our first Jimmy Buffett concert and i think we have probably got a lot closer than many that attend his stadium shows in the US. I think you will be surprised as to how many fans Jimmy has in Europe and it's good of him to think of us. There were fans there from England Germany Ireland Spain that we saw It was absolutely brilliant and wee worth waiting in a queue all day for

I know that Jimmy loves France. Having lived there myself, I hold a special place in my heart for all things French. But, I'd say it's a good guess that the average citizen of France doesn't know JB from a hole in the wall. And you know what, that's okay with me... more Jimmy for us!!

It's been over 30 years since my visit to the Champs Ellysees, Montmartre, Sacre' Coeur and the Louvre... Heck, maybe they've changed!
Just watch the DVD of the Paris concert and loved seeing Larry there on the front row... HOG rules!

I was telling Judy the other day that Jimmy gets to reward his Band and all with a trip to Paris, and by playing a show, it is all deductable!
They get there early, play the show/shows and stay a few days after, and it is an expense of the tour!!!
I get the sense that Jimmy is very good to the band and tour members and rewards their loyality!
The side-effect of all this, is the smaller core fan base that Jimmy has in England and Ireland and in Europe, have an opportunity to see Jimmy for far less money and in a more intimate atmosphere, then the fans in this country.
That is oh course, unless you are a fan from the states can afford to make a trip to Paris to see him! Probably several thousand dollars per person, when all is said and done.
Beside, JIMMY LOVES FRANCE!

Rolling Stone Article on the Paris Shows

Jimmy Buffett Plays Paris Shows: “I’m Getting Back to My Roots”
Buffett first came to Paris 34 years ago, at the behest of some friends in Key West, Florida, that were working on a film with a French production team. “Paris had been on my song line since I was a kid reading Fitzgerald, Gertrud Stein and Hemingway — I just had to figure out a way to get there,” he says. The movie needed a soundtrack and Buffett wound up spending the summer living in a castle an hour outside of Paris, “learning the language and the bohemian lifestyle.” He has been coming back regularly ever since.
Buffett concluded both nights much the same way his career began — onstage by himself, in a small club, playing a great ballad. It was the moment the faithful had waited for all evening. The magic of Buffett is that in five minutes he can transport a crowd back to a 1960s Bourbon Street bar or the Quiet Knight in Chicago where he found the inspiration for his final song, “He Went to Paris.” Buffett promised the Paris shows would become an annual engagement and also said to expect more interesting gigs in 2009.
