Not a lot of hockey greats in Pgh, Mike Lange is a top quality announcer and deserves mention. Just as Cope did for the Stillers.[/quote]Skibo wrote:Steelers: Jack Lambert, Mike Webser, Mean Joe Greene, and Myron Cope
Pirates: Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Bill Mazeroski and Barry Bonds.
When he was a Pirate, Bonds was pure ability. Personally I don't have an issue with the steroids anyway. Stargell was a big figure, but his strikeout count was sick, but since he is bigger than life in Pgh, I'll leave him.
Penguins: Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Sidney Crosby, and Mike Lange
You could have added John Thompson to the Providence team also....TheSecretsInTheCrust wrote:I FORGOT A CPL OF TEAMS...I hate getting old.

Bonds is a turd but there is no denying his ability. I really wanted to put a pitcher in there but we never really had a franchise pitcher like a Carlton/Seaver/Ryan. There have been some nice 1-3 season wonders but no long term great guys that I remember.blackjack wrote:
Good call on Cope! RIP Myron. There are so many for the Steelers.
I ruled out guys who left before they were "too old". Hence no Jagr or Bonds for me. Bonds was also an a-hole while in Pittsburgh, not that he ever changed.

How about Doc Ellis? Isn't he the guy who said he pitched a no-hitter while he was trippin' on acid?Skibo wrote:Candyman's career was too short and Teke would fit, but he didn't have enough years with the pirates to qualify for me...oh, ok I'll pull bonds and put in Haddox.blackjack wrote:

Doh! I should have checked his years. I didn't realize he was with the team that long. Still I like haddox better.blackjack wrote:Kent was with the Pirates from 74-85.Skibo wrote:Candyman's career was too short and Teke would fit, but he didn't have enough years with the pirates to qualify for me...oh, ok I'll pull bonds and put in Haddox.blackjack wrote:

Even though I fart in the general direction of Ohio, back in those days I knew the entire roster of that team. Pit/Cin games were big for me then. George Foster wow I really liked him then.parrothead3282 wrote:I wasn't around for the big red machineSkibo wrote:Or Sparky Anderson or Joe Morgan or Tom Seaver. But I change it to Joe Morgan I forgot him.
I have to admit, he's not the first guy I think of, but he is on my list on page 1. Clemente, Stargell and Mazeroski are a little closer to my era.TheSecretsInTheCrust wrote:Yup...against the Padres.LIPH wrote:How about Doc Ellis? To me Honus Wegner is the first Pirate I think of
I respect that you don't have someone next to Seaver. I think of Rusty Stabb, Dwight Gooden, Darrell Strawberry and Lenny DykstrsaLIPH wrote:I could add lots of great players to Tom Seaver to fill out the other 3 spots for the Mets but none of them were all that good when they played for the Mets.
