"Responding to questions about PBS anchor/VP debate moderator/”Age of Obama”-proclaiming author Gwen Ifill’s conflicts of interest, a PBS spokeswoman huffed: “The book has been a known factor for months, so I’m not sure what the big deal is.”

It wasn’t a “known factor” to the McCain campaign. And it’s highly doubtful the American public would have been fully informed about Ifill’s Inauguration Day-timed Obama book before Thursday by PBS or Ifill or the Presidential Debate Commission.

John McCain told Fox News that’s he confident the “well-respected” Ifill will be fair. But at the heart of the controversy is an issue McCain is supposed to care deeply about: Transparency."
What's wrong with having a hostile moderator? Really it should show how the candidate responds to a difficult situation. I don't want to see an interview of McCain or Palin on Hannity, I don't need to see his softballs and hugfest. I want them on MSNBC with the Snarky crew. Same with Obama and Biden get them over on Faux news. Not with Hannity though he is just a complete moron. Obama did pretty good on O'Really. Let them ask really really off the wall questions. A true leader should be able to address the absurd.
Agreed. I want the media asking the tough questions of all politicians. They're reporters, not cheerleaders. Ask the tough but fair questions, and if they don't answer the question, ask it again. And again. Just like Tim Russert did.
Tim Rusert is someone I am really missing this election season. Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams are great. Tim really broke it down :(

The Gwen Ifill book was press released in July.
It's been on Amazon.com pre-order for quite a while also.

To raise this as some sort of bias less than 48 hrs. is a pure smokescreen
to try even harder to lower expectations for Ms. Alaska... and naturally, it's all the rage on FauxNews

You know, I'm really concerned that Gwen Ifill will be able to moderate this debate without her biases showing. You do realize that she is likely to favor Sarah Palin since they are both woman!!!! :o

The book, according to early reviews, the press releases and interviews given in July and August by the author isn't about Obama per se, rather it is about what changes have happened in this country that allow someone of an ethnic minority to be a candidate of a major political party running for the office of the President of the United States. That is a far cry from the implication that the McCain Campaign spokesperson made about this book which was that it was a book praising Obama.

I believe this is an attempt by the McCain camp to have an excuse ready to deploy if Sarah Palin doesn't do well in this debate. If she doesn't hold her own throughout most of the debate I will be very surprised. After all, this isn't a real debate but rather two people getting to stand in front of the cameras and make position statements that could and should have been prepared well in advance. The only part that either candidate should have any trouble with is the 30 minute portion that is supposed to be a bit more free wheeling.

In this case, the alternate phrase is more appropriate: Chicks before you know what. :wench:

I'm gonna start getting "tuned up" for this debate... :P

gotta say, I'm even more curious about the way this one plays out than last week's.
With McCain's numbers dropping... he's now conceding Michigan...
tonight's performance by Ms. Alaska is absolutely crucial

I'll forecast that she presents her arguments well, but gets "wrong-footed" at least twice, caught in the headlights.
Biden will be tempted to mock her, he's got to just be patient... eventually she'll talk herself into into nowhere

Looks like the "GOTCHA" media and their lemmings are out in full force tonight.

so far, I'd give Palin the edge......she's more than holding her own. Biden's the one who keeps getting tongue tied.

I agree, but I was actually giving Biden some kudos until he started with his "global warming" crap and saying it's man made.

Cash in my chips, please.

She's somewhat holding her own... she's dodging the subject often.

Watching her put her smile while trying to excuse the debate "pointing fingers backwards" has me hitting the roof!!!!

You can't just cutesy yourself out these last 8 years, Ms. Alaska!!! :x

He's doing his best not to lose his temper with the lightweight opposition
who's best defense is to continue to bait him

hey, I don't have to convince you or anyone here... her falling numbers across the USA tell the story

I wish Biden would answer the questions asked...he was asked what campaign promises they'd have to break due to the events of the past week, and all he talked about is what they'd do. Now he's asked what differences a Biden administation would have from an Obama one, again, he tells what they would do.....c'mon, you can't just answer the easy ones Joe....but then again, his partner Obama has made a Political career of that.
