You have Toby Keith's bar... Everybody Loves This Bar
Margaritaville
Sammy Hagar Tequila...came out befor Buffett's
Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico and Taho (I think)
And now Kenny Chesney is going to have his own rum....who cares????
I'm sure he is looking at it as a business venture, and a way to keep his name out there. He is not the first one to do it, and Buffett is not the only one to have done it. If you really wanted to you could say that Buffett was ripping off Hagar. But since everybody rips Buffetts tequila, and say that Hagar's is better they don't do that. And if Chesney's product is better than Buffett's...is he still copying Buffett, or will he be copying Hagar???? Or will it stand on it's own somewhere inbetween?
Has anybody said that Buffett coming out with his own salsa is copying Paul Newman? You know that Newman had his own salsa long before Buffett. And I haven't read anywhere that said Buffett is just a poor rip off of Hagar in the liquor market.
It's all about the money and the name brand. Chesney has just as much right to test the market, and expand his name, as any other singer, or actor.
Don't get me wrong...I love Buffett's music. But I also don't have anything against Chesney, or anybody else trying to market themselves. Buffett wasn't the first to do it, and he won't be the last. He just may be one of the most successful.
Just my five cents worth....and if you read this far...fins up to you!!

I completely agree.
Oh, and adding to your liquor list there's Willie Nelson's
Old Whisky River bourbon

Only if he's trying to drive through Atlanta this week...
I got no problem with Kenny singing trop rock. If he can get it out in front of three and a half million people who otherwise wouldn't be exposed to it, I'm all for it. Those of us who write and perform in the genre have an incredibly difficult time getting awareness for it, and if it takes a Chesney or a Tracy Byrd or (please Ghod) a Willie Nelson to get "trop rock" listed alongside all those *other* genres out there and accepted...so be it.
It's. All. Good.

Gotta give Kenny some summer tour credit- he went all over the place this summer.
Closest JB ever comes to my house is at least a 4 hour drive and it is huge pain to get tickets. Got tix for the short man easily and at a small venue about an hour away.
He is really marketing himself as a brand and I don't see a huge problem with that. I also enjoy the mostly lighthearted jabs at Kenny Chesney that go on here.

Many coincidences, but one big difference.
Kenny Chesney was a successful country artist before he started recording music that he enjoys. Jimmy had only one top ten song before he left Nashville and ended up in Key West.
Another difference: Kenny wants to develop "his own brand of
premium rum." If Landshark Lager and Margaritaville Tequila are any indication, Jimmy is not going to compete in the same segment of the market.
Can you elaborate on the last part I am a little confused. Thanks!
Many, myself included, have tried Landshark Lager and Margaritaville Tequila and found them to be lacking in quality and taste. They slapped the trademark on a poor product and sold a boatload of it to people just because it has Jimmy's name on it.
The article mentions Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Tequila which is recognized by many to be a high quality product. If Kenny and Constellation Spirits produce a product of similar quality, it is likely to be successful.
E you have heard me say that I like Cruzans blackstrap
in a Dark and Stormy..
While not an Appletons.. or Pyrate
having the Quality of Goslings.. isn't too bad..

I'm pretty sure both of those were written long before there was a line of tequila associated with the names. (I know for a fact one was.

Wow, Cheesy is gonna - might - write a song about his rum. How impressive.
What a loser. Jimmy has gone overboard but that's because people are dumb enough to buy anything with his name on it and he knows it. Cheesy is just imitating him because he knows people will buy it. The Rolling Stones have their own wine...

Who cares???? If it's a good product who cares who's name is on the bottle? I personally like Land Shark. It's a decent beer. A hell of a lot better than BL Lime, but not as good as Kona's beers.

If you want to support Jimmy's products like Landshark Lager go ahead. I've had it but I probably never will again. If you want to support Kenny Cheese imitating Jimmy Buffett go ahead. I haven't had Jimmy's rum and based on what I've read about it I most likely never will. If it's good is a good way of putting it. If being the key word. The first word that brings to my mind is I doubt it.
At least Toby Keith did something different.
