The problem here is during the primaries while the Democrats were debating and vetting their candidates, the Republicans were running the stop Hillary express and not evaluating and vetting their own candidates. The Rep party pretty much conceded the election 6 months ago.LIPH wrote:I hate to sound like a broken record, but in a nation of 300 million people are these 2 really the best we can come up with?

I try to stay out of the political discussions, as most minds here are already made up and many are completely closed to reason anyway.
My biggest complaint of the season involves the ads.
Being in Florida, which is a key "tossup" state, we get a LOT of political ads.
Is it asking too much to expect the candidates to say what they are going to do,
as opposed to the endless scare-mongering sayin what the "other guy" is going to do?
I really don't need McCain's people telling me Obama is going to raise taxes
Neither do I need Obama's people telling me McCain is going to continue the policies of the Bush administrations.
I would rather hear how either future administration/party plans to make it better for those of us under their leadership.
Specifics, not more platitudes!

But if they did that they'd actually have to come up with an original thought or two. What are you thinking?z-man wrote:I would rather hear how either future administration/party plans to make it better for those of us under their leadership.

Unfortunately, lots of people "say" this same thing, however studies have shown that people "respond" to the negative ads more often than not. Therefore, we wil continue to have the attack ads until something finally gives and people respond to the positive ads more frequently than the negatives.z-man wrote:I try to stay out of the political discussions, as most minds are already made up and many are completely closed to reason anyway.

I thought it was nothing if not entertaining debate wise. I can tell you with 31 days left to go before the election, I still have not decided who I am going to vote for.
As for the debate itself, someone in the McCain-Palin camp really should have sat down and gone over debating and how the whole process works. Because she really had no clue whatsoever. If she turned it around to energy one more time I thought I was going to lose it. She re-stated question after question, and answered what she wanted. It's not really how the process works.
I like Joe Biden, but he's a career politician and really said nothing different from what he has said in his acceptance speech at the convention. References, to his dad, couple of references to Scranton and hard times, his mom, the accident. Same old...I did like how he took her to task on McCain being a Maverick. That was entertaining.
It sure was a lot entertaining then the Cubs game

funny how this site never minded people calling Bush a terrorist, murderer, liar, etc. in the past, why change it now.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Can we leave the 2nd grade name-calling out or is that asking too much of educated people...?![]()

I will keep my political views out of this, but I almost fell off my couch laughing when Gov. Palin said "John McCain has tapped me..." Childish, yes, but that is priceless stuff right there!

Personally I think I've been pretty consistent in my call for respect for our elected officials, even in disagreement.12vmanRick wrote:funny how this site never minded people calling Bush a terrorist, murderer, liar, etc. in the past, why change it now.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Can we leave the 2nd grade name-calling out or is that asking too much of educated people...?![]()

Is there anything out there that is truly "fair and balanced" though? I find it hard to believe that if factcheck were so unbalanced, both campaigns would be using it to support their statements. Trying to be objective about it, to me, it seems to be predominately fair to me.12vmanRick wrote:factcheck is NOT a fair and balanced site nor do they tell the facts, they tell them the way they want to see them and lean Democrat.

From what I've seen, it looks as though McCain has misrepresented factcheck.org when using it to support his campaign.

I am a pretty big guy - about 6' 1" and I weigh about 220. It takes a lot of beer to get me drunk. That is unfair. Why should I have to pay more then some guy who is 5'6" and weighs 160 pounds who can get drunk off of 6 less beers then me. There should be a tax break for that!
See how stupid sh*t like that sounds.
