They deserve respect as candidates for the highest and second-highest offices in our government, even when you don't agree with them.

Hope folks go back and read the part of my post that you snipped about Government money, but non-profits couldn't survive without people like you.jackiesic wrote:I've about come to the conclusion that the big picture (national) is so out of my control and aggravating that I need to let it go. It's a partnership, and I applaud your contributions.
When you (all) familiarize yourself with the agencies in your community that are doing good works that you believe in, support them.
The more people that step up, the less reliant on Government funds non-profits will be.

From what I've seen, it looks as though McCain has misrepresented factcheck.org when using it to support his campaign.

According to FactCheck.org
1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”
4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.
5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false
8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.
9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.
10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.
12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

It's sad that even the most unbiased sources are still biased. that is why I TRY to go to all of them and because BN seems to lean SO far left overall I normally have to post things from the far right but it doesn't do any good, people will believe what they want and discount what they don't. Most people do not care enough to take time to find the truth. I am sure my view of the truth isn't exact either.FunkHouse9 wrote:It's sad that even the most unbiased sources are still biased. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. There is no absolute truth. We believe what we want to believe. Then we fight each other over what is right and what is wrong when, in some cases, the two sides aren't even very different.12vmanRick wrote:that is why I TRY to go to all of them and because BN seems to lean SO far left overall I normally have to post things from the far right but it doesn't do any good, people will believe what they want and discount what they don't. I heard another comment last night I just had to look up. Mr. Biden stated that most small business will not be affected by the Obama Tax increase. That any business making over under $250,000 will not be affected. Sounded a bit low in $ to me so I went to the SBA website to find the governments official definition of a small business. After reading from that site I am convinced that jobs will disappear. I work at a very small buiness, 5 employees, counting the owner and his very part time daughter. My boss said that last year the business (which has been in business for 50+ years) had a taxable income of $437,000 and change.
So from SBA.gov
Q. How does the SBA define a small business?
A. A small business is an concern that is organized for profit, with a place of business in the United States, and which operates primarily within the United States or makes a significant contribution to the U.S. economy through payment of taxes or use of American products, materials or labor. Further, the concern cannot be dominant in its field, on a national basis. Finally, the concern must meet the numerical small business size standard for its industry. SBA has established a size standard for most industries in the U.S. economy. The most common size standards are as follow:
500 employees for most manufacturing and mining industries
100 employees for all wholesale trade industries
$7.0 million for most retail and service industries
$33.5 million for most general & heavy construction industries
$14.0 million for all special trade contractors
$0.75 million for most agricultural industries
About one-fourth of industries have a size standard that is different from these levels. They vary from $0.75 million to $33.5 million for size standards based on average annual revenues and from 100 to 1500 employees for size standards based on number of employees. Several SBA programs have either alternative or unique size standards, such as the Small Business Investment Company Program.

Me too. I think we should rescind the tax breaks given to the very wealthy during the Bush administration and what's funny is that I'm not alone in this belief. Warren Buffett maintains that there is something wrong with our tax system when his taxes work out to be 17% of his income and his office admin is paying 39% of her income. According to him, he has the lowest rate in his office of over 100 people with the vast majority paying in excess of 30%.johnson2113 wrote:A very big one.Skibo wrote:You got a problem with that?johnson2113 wrote:Income redistribution = fairness????
Currently the system is set so that the wealthy get wealthier and the middle and lower class get poorer. There is something wrong with our tax code when it favors one group over another as it does now and especially when it favors those who won't be burdened by paying their taxes.
So let's stop the redistribution and be fair to all people.
