I won't...there are not many shows at the Casa that i will be going to after i heard about the treatment some of my friends got there last year! :-?
Boy I'd love to know why people are so upset (seriously, I have no idea) I admit I didn't spend much time there but the biggest thing that happened to me was they tried to serve food to Santa, R2 and me that we hadn't ordered. :D In retrospect we should have taken it!
Y'all should have! :D

I'm not really upset..really. Just got slightly annoyed at one of the staff who nearly knocked me over running to grab an empty beach chair in which he was soooo afraid that I was going to sit. I was headed out to put my feet in the sand and water... I wasn't even thinking about that damn chair and he comes running by me telling me 'no'. I'm like you freakin' idiot...
How on earth would they know you weren't staying there?
But I don't want to get everyone going on this subject again when we're all looking forward to having a fun time. :D I was just curious and too lazy to go back and look for an old thread.
Yeah, pretty much my thought. :-?

And you're right.... it's gonna be an AWESOME time! :D

I have had it for awhile and like it a lot.

Not my absolute favorite of his, but definitely would put it in the top half if I were ranking his CDs

Meeting of the Minds (MOTM)

I was not invited to MOTM this year, and I know it upset some of you,
especially since the convention is named "Bar Stools and Beach Chairs."
We will have a presence in Key West, so don't fret about that. Come on
down and enjoy the week. We will still kick off the convention with a
Wednesday night show. My performance schedule is posted on my web
site. This whole controversy caused me to reflect on my history with this
event, and it seems we've grown up together.

I first performed at MOTM in 1998. The Jimmy Buffett Listserv was
looking for someone to play for free on Thursday afternoon at Turtle
Kraals. I volunteered and Dave Thomas came along with me to play
congas. We drove through a tropical storm and dodged a tornado in Key
Largo, but I wanted the exposure. We had a good crowd and a good
show. They passed the hat, and I sold some CDs and broke even on the
trip. This was the beginning of what became the annual Thursday
afternoon show that I've been a part of for the last 10 years. It was also
the beginning of my relationship with the parrot heads and their
organization, PHIP (Parrot Heads In Paradise). PHIP has chosen to cancel
the Thursday afternoon show this year, but the Paradise Charitable
Foundation has decided to put on the show. James White, John Frinzi and
I will perform together at the Conch Republic Seafood Company, and we
are also recording the performance for a CD which will be produced by
the Paradise Charitable Foundation.

The next year (1999) I was invited to do a show at Hooters during MOTM.
I convinced them to let me play Wednesday night. The convention didn't
start until Thursday, but I knew that a lot of people came early. If I
played on Wednesday night, I would be the only game in town and I
could get some valuable exposure. I had just formed a band, and they
offered to play for free since Hooters was not paying me enough pay
them. It was a great night, and I made a lot of new fans. It was the
beginning of the annual Wednesday night "Welcome Concert." In
subsequent years we moved the show to the Oak Beach Inn, then to the
Hard Rock Café. In 2002 we found a home at the Hogs Breath, and
during the last 6 years, the Hogs Breath show has been one of the most
popular shows at MOTM. Everyone is just getting to town and there is so
much excitement in the air. I think this show single handedly expanded
MOTM from a 4- day event to an unofficial 5-day event.

Through a series of strange transactions, the Hogs Breath got the word
that we were not coming to MOTM this year, so they hired someone else
for the Wednesday night show. We are moving the show to Dante's, and I
don't think the party will miss a beat.

We first played the "No Plane On Sunday" show at the Schooner Wharf in
1999. Back then most people left on Sunday, but we had a good crowd of
Florida folks who stayed. It was quite party, word got around and the
next year a lot of out-of-towners stayed. Now it is a Sunday night
tradition, and many people stay an extra night to "wind down."

I've played the Sunday morning acoustic show on the beach for the last
nine years. This year I will still do a show, but it will be at the Conch
Republic Seafood Company. Of all the shows I was not hired to do this
year, I might miss this one the most. There is something very special
about playing on the beach on Sunday morning, responding to requests
for songs I rarely play while waiting for the bar to open so I can have the
traditional shot of tequila to clear my throat.

During the early years we had to play as much as we could and wherever
we could. The bars and MOTM did not pay very well, and there was

enormous competition for gigs. In 2000, I played 9 shows in 5 days: 4
solo and 5 with the band. This may be hard to believe, but it was not until
2006 that I actually made money from performing during MOTM. I made
$423 that year. Key West is expensive and by the time I pay the band
and their expenses there is not much left. I have always made money
selling merchandise (thank you very much) and that has kept me in the
game and made the effort worthwhile. The most important thing is that I
made a lot of great contacts who have invited me to play all over the
country and helped to greatly expand my business and fan base.

In the beginning we were not invited to MOTM, but we came anyway. We
worked hard and made a spot for ourselves. We created shows that
people thought were worthwhile and that have become a tradition. We
intend to keep coming and to keep doing what we do. Most of you know
that if someone gives me a lime (I like this better than the lemon
metaphor), sooner or later I will turn it into a pretty good margarita.
