school suspends kid for his mohawk

Post by rich_big »

First, I wish my parents were cool enough to let me have a mohawk as a kid. second, I wish they would let me miss school for having the hawk. but this kids school sucks. suspend a kid for his haircut? gimme a break.

I remember a time when the freaks used to just get beat up and conform. Oh how I long for the simpler days.

My cousin got tossed out of school for having a mohawk. But that was in the 60's.

I got suspended for wearing Bo Derek "10" braids, because they were a "distraction"...

....so I went home, took them out, brushed my (long) hair and went back to school and got suspended again.
(For those of you that don't know...if you brush out braided hair it "expands"... a lot :o )

...I was also sent home for wearing flip flops.

Yea, not the same since the USSR breakup and Mao Zedong's passing.

At my son's elementary school you can have a mohawk but it can't be spiked or colored. I let him have one for the summer but for school I feel it's kind of a distraction. I've always wanted to rock one at work just to see what da bosses would think

I work at a High School and the ENTIRE football team, all 120 of them from Freshman to Varsity got mohawks in beginning of school year. MY son included !! Our school actually considered it a part of school spirit week.
I have other students who have blue ones etc. who are on honor roll and are very nice kids.
People need to stop judging others on their freakin looks and start judging them on what they use their common sense on.
Let us all start judging those with common sense and see what's out there, the results would scare the chit out of some of you !!

the kids here in s/e Georgia are allowed to wear them....

haven't seen one @ high school, tho.

well, not middle school either.

only elementary school.

more prevelant I'd say in the 4 younger grades than 4th, 5th, or 6th.

... and those that have had them, seem to let them grow out and only sport the mohawk the one time.

Oh, do I recall the days of making a big deal out of hair, and it's length. what a waste of energy.

This is my town.. nice that it made national news..

The rule has been in place since I was in high school. Many parents called the school to ask if it would be ok and were told no.. those kids don't have mohawks. I think this parent is just looking for 15 minutes of fame...

Granted I see nothing wrong with the mohawk but rules are rules..
