At least there's ibuprofen for kids now. That will help a lot more thanjimolliemom wrote:So far, tylenol and rest have helped a lot. I was 12 and with 4 older siblings (2 sisters) in a 3 bedroom/1 bath house and a Mom who always informed us about everything, I knew exactly what was going on.
My oldest daughter started at 14, second daughter 12 and we're waiting on the 12 year old to start.
I started a family tradition with my oldest. After her first period, all the women in the family, Moms, Grandma's, Aunt's, Cousins and Sisters, (no little sisters), gather at our house and we take the newest Woman out to dinner to her favorite restaurant. Afterwards we gather back at home for dessert where she is given small gifts and we look at her baby book and share stories about our own memories of becoming Women. I started this because I wanted my daughters to share in the joy of being a Women and to never feel ashamed or embarrassed.
My sister wrote this in a card for my oldest at her party, I've always thought it was perfectly stated:
Every morning the birds brought seeds and flowers and bits of brightly colored string and placed them in her hair while she still slept so that she would remember the joys of childhood when she finally awoke......
Wendy,
As you begin this new part of your life keep the enthusiasm and open heart you have had as a child.
Love, Aunt Patti
My Wendy is now 25 and I still have a hard time not tearing up when I read that and think about her growing up!

birth control never did subside the pain of my cramps.
A week before - moderate cramps
during - cramps so bad I was doubled over when walking....that was only IF I could get out of bed
My OB/GYN can't figure out anything....she thought endometriosis, now she's thinking polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Yes, you will....I'd rather endure the hot flashes...ph4ever wrote:It was about a month before my 11th birthday. I too got awful cramps that subsided when I went on the pill. It was a godsend!!!
Now if this "curse" would ever go away I'd be happy.
I had some great directions for Tampon Angel ornaments for the Christmas tree for any leftovers. I made them and gave them to a few special friends at work after the operation. They had no idea what they were and showed them to everyone who ooohed and ahhhed over them
oh and so as not to hijack....13.

13, and no major troubles with it ever. When my mom was diagnosed with (and lost her fight with) ovarian cancer, I had a hysterectomy/oophorectomy at 45. Instant menopause. I took HRT for 6 months only to mitigate the hot flashes and other symptoms. At 55, life is good.

12 or 13.. I think. I remember the moment.. had to describe things to my sister to make sure (she's 2 years older) and yep.
How those 'feminine products' have changed over the years.
Loved those 'belts'..
Same horrible cramps at about 14-15, and was put on medication. Never realized at the time it was 'the pill'. Was off of it at age 22, and got pregnant a month later with Cameron. Was on it for years, never an issue. Went off for many years, then those teenage cramps returned again in my 40's.. Now off again, and gee, we get to be pre-menopausal now. Joy Joy.

And I'm so glad I had a son.

i was 2 months shy of my 13th birthday. i will never forget that day. i had some time after my last class and gymnastics team practice, so i walked to town. i was wearing a dress, which i hardly ever did. it was starting to drizzle out as i walked around. i remember my lower back hurting and thought maybe it was because of all the books i was carrying. anyway, i got to the locker room to get dressed and what do you know??? i got my period. i knew not because my mom told me but because of my friends and "the film". my parents never had any talks with us about maturing, sex, etc... it's just not talked about. how absurd! anyway, i handled it all myself. luckly i had some change so i could go to the machine on the wall and get a pad. that thing was sooooo huge ( this was back in '75 ). i must have pinned it to my underwear. i didn't have any belt and i don't think the sticky back kind had come of age yet. i felt like i looked like i was walking after i had just gotten off of riding a horse for hours. every time i hear the lyrics "back in the saddle again" i think of that time. to top it off, i had my leotard on and had that 2 1/2 hour gymnastics practice to do. i can't even begin with that one..ugh!!!!! i started with the tampons not too long after, thank god
i never had really bad cramps even before i went on the pill. i still get menstrual migraines. i was always on schedule and light which led me to believe that going through menopause would be ok. yeah right. i started getting symptoms at 36 and i'm 45 now and still not done. those night sweats s***. i didn't get a decent night's sleep for a few years. it's much better now. i still take the lowest dose pill to help with symptoms of menopause.
guys have it soooo easy.

sorry to hear both of those things. i started exercising more and eating farther away from bedtime. i'm not sure the eating part has helped but the nights sweats are far less frequent. it was happening so often. my pj's would be soaked a couple of times a night and that was in the winter with no covers!!!! i wouldn't wish that on most people. terrorists, definitely!!SMLCHNG wrote:My GYN doc said no to this, cause BP is up, for no apparent reasonMacPhin wrote:I still take the lowest dose pill to help with symptoms of menopause.

My poor husband is having trouble getting used to me throwing off the covers all the time. I used to sleep in flannel. Now I can't even stand a sheet over me.
i can relate to the sheet thing. i used to sleep in flannel with socks and an electric blanket. one night i was sweating, looked over at dave to see if maybe he had moved the covers off also. nope! it was winter and he had them way up near his chin. it finally dawned on me that maybe something was up. i was only 36 so i was a bit concerned but had heard that it was possible. my period was coming twice a month and lasting a long time ( for me). i started waking up with heart palpatations and that freaked me right out. thank god that didn't last that long. i have had hot flashes also but not too many in comparision with the night sweats!!!!!!!!!!
good luck to all you chicas out there. i think we got this because the person up there knew that guys couldn't handle it.

I first started having "hot flashes" back in 2004. I'd go outside at work in the dead of winter and just lift up my blouse to get coolnutmeg wrote:MacPhin wrote:sorry to hear both of those things. i started exercising more and eating farther away from bedtime. i'm not sure the eating part has helped but the nights sweats are far less frequent. it was happening so often. my pj's would be soaked a couple of times a night and that was in the winter with no covers!!!! i wouldn't wish that on most people. terrorists, definitely!!SMLCHNG wrote:My GYN doc said no to this, cause BP is up, for no apparent reasonMacPhin wrote:I still take the lowest dose pill to help with symptoms of menopause.![]()
