I've never been a cold temperature person. I'm the one who usually turns on the AC, opens windows, and turn on fans. :D

I don't eat 'dinner' during the week, only breakfast and lunch. :)
a former boss was the same way and told me that she reversed when she started going thru it - she became really sensitive to cold

sorry to hear both of those things. i started exercising more and eating farther away from bedtime. i'm not sure the eating part has helped but the nights sweats are far less frequent. it was happening so often. my pj's would be soaked a couple of times a night and that was in the winter with no covers!!!! i wouldn't wish that on most people. terrorists, definitely!!

I first started having "hot flashes" back in 2004. I'd go outside at work in the dead of winter and just lift up my blouse to get cool  They went away in 2005. Then last year the night sweats. I asked my doc about it and she ran a blood test and said yep - you're going thru menopause. I just want the "monthly visitor" to quit coming to visit. Will this "change of life" crap ever get over with????
I was lucky (I guess) I went into instant menopause when I had my hysterectomy. I don't miss the monthly inconvenience. It always happened when went on vacation :x

11 years and 8 months. And I always had the worst cramps imaginable. Each month I would wind up having to go home from school because I would run a fever and vomit. The pill was new on the market and they resisted putting me on it for a long time, but for years I was on Edrisal for the cramps. Turns out it was basically pure speed and it was taken off the market in the mid 70s. When I learned that it explained why I couldn't sleep and felt so wired. Eventually went on the pill and that reduced the pain a lot.

Yes, you will....I'd rather endure the hot flashes... (however the no sleeping thing is the pits)

I had some great directions for Tampon Angel ornaments for the Christmas tree for any leftovers. I made them and gave them to a few special friends at work after the operation. They had no idea what they were and showed them to everyone who ooohed and ahhhed over them

I was 13 1/2. No problems, regular as clockwork, never missed a period unless I was pregnant, until a year after I weaned my youngest, when I was 36... I've been irregular and perimenopausal for 9 years now (I'm 45), and I am so O.V.E.R. it! I'm glad, in a misery-loves-company way, to hear that I'm not the only one. I guess I'm paying for all those cramp-free years. :)

My daughter started a year ago, at nearly 13. She has pretty bad aches and cramping, but it's manageable with Advil.

I can't imagine starting at 9 - poor baby! Um, I mean... poor young woman. :)

Amen, I had started menopause when I ended up needing a hyst (I was having 10 day marathons with lots of pain and UGH, I'll spare the worst of the detalis!). I'll never forget the following summer I scheduled some sailing lessons and the boats they used had no "facilities' I started to look at the calender to see when it was going to be and then realized "HEY I don't have to worry about this anymore!!!" I took HRT too for a while but only to get over the worst of it. I find that stress and oddly enough alcohol bring on the hot flashes but for the most part I'm good now. The best part is it doesn't ruin any of my concert experiences now!! :D

I began this thread (notice I titled it (Ladies) to ask about age you began. Since my daughter is SO young and since my female troubles have me worried. Her beginning at 9, wondering if the same things will happen (hopefully NOT) but she has more years for them to set in than someone who starts later (Like Citcat at 17). This was NOT meant to be gross or in any way disrespectful. And, you don't have to read or post.

I was 10 or 11.. still wearing days of the week underpants... lol..

I wasn't diagnosed with endo or PCOS until 2006. Infertility has been plaguing Mike and I for 18 months..

9 seems early but sounds like she has a great mom to help her thru everything!

Kitty - I love you to death and I hope this doesn't come across wrong.

The title of the thread indicates that it's probably a "ladies only" subject. Every one of us is different and just because people have no problems discussing normal body functions doesn't make them wrong or bad. Not any more than your issues with the thread makes you a prude. I know when I first started showing signs of menopause I really needed someone to talk to about what was going on with my life and all the "women" figures in my life that would have the answers were unfortunately dead. Personally I see no problem with it and can see a place for it because we're already comfortable with each other as friends. I've been to other health related boards - some of them are really intimidating and the posters there very rude and unfriendly.

As I said...it seems that I am the only one who would never choose to discuss such personal and vivid details about my body for just anyone to read. I can understand wanting to talk about issues like this...but personally, I limit talk like this to very, very close friends and my doctor...and that still isn't easy! Thank God I don't have a daughter!

I was not judging the person who started the thread, (although she did seem to think so as evident by her response to me) nor anyone else who so openly posted details about their personal experience in it...I simply asked if I was the only one who felt it too personal to be posted on an open dicussion board. It was a question, I wondered if I was alone in my thinking, that's all.

Yes, the title does say "ladies"...but you show me one man who does not look at things he is not supposed to and I will be shocked.

IMHO- if a man looks at a thread like this and reads it and gets grossed out - oh well. One of these days I need to tell you the story about my son telling me which feminine product smelt better. (he stocked at a grocery and had to stock them)

i so relate because the only person i could talk to about it for the first 5 years was my m-i-l. that was ok but i didn't have and still don't have friends who are going through the same thing. i started early and i'm 8 years into it. anytime i can find someone who is experiencing these symptoms i find it helpful. other women can give suggestions that i might not know about..or it's just plain good to air out frustrations to someone who can relate.
it all boils down to whatever one is comfortable with. i don't view going through men-on-pause (that's what my m-i-l calls it !! ) that personal because it's a natural aging process. there are other things i definitely wouldn't post on here that i find extremely personal.
just my 2 cents.

I wasn't trying to be rude, mean or judge anyone. I am asking a question to comfort my worries and fears for my daughter and myself. I appreciate the responses...all of them. I am a surgical menopause person myself. I also took HRT for about 5 years. Then I stopped and I feel great. No mood swings, no hot flashes and no night sweats...anymore. I also know a lot of the ladies (and men for that matter) personally...not just on BN. Heck, Des was there the days I found out I was pregnant with my last 2. She was there when I went into labor and she is still there for me, coaching me on raising my keets. Mal posted and again, I feel as if I know her...If I've offended anyone, I am sorry. That was NOT my goal. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a very open person about most everything. I know some PHolks are not. Also, the people who know me know I am a 100%, football screaming, cheering, scout loving, recital listening Mom and if anything worries me about my kids, I post and get comfort and suggestions.

Again, I never meant to make this a gross or inappropriate thread...
Now...anyone else wanna add to my question? As far as the American Academy of Peds goes...9 is the low side of "Normal" for a young lady.

Hey Kitty, I know a lot of people would be traumatized by the stuff in this thread.

However, I find it interesting how many experiences we have in common...Experiences that used to be kept in the dark...and you felt like you were the only one ... It's cool that you have girlfriends/a doctor you can discuss these things with.

Most of the ladies my age would rather die than discuss this stuff in person...and it doesn't seem to come up in casual conversations  ...and my doctor is a guy....(nuf said)

I'm finding it refreshing to hear the open discussion and to see the humor in some of it.

On the other hand if I see one more ad for Cialis or Viagra on the TV during the baseball games, I'm gonna scream :x Now THAT I find embarrassing...
