I'm finding it refreshing to hear the open discussion and to see the humor in some of it.

On the other hand if I see one more ad for Cialis or Viagra on the TV during the baseball games, I'm gonna scream :x Now THAT I find embarrassing...

I really don't care if the guys are voyers in this thread.
Maybe they'll learn something and be more compassionate about what their wives/gfriends & daughters live through.

Caly: We spent 8 years living with infertility (treatments), and one angel before finally welcoming our son. Because of our struggles, our daughter chose to have a child young (too young for us), but she had no trouble and we are now blessed with a 1 y/o granddaughter. And our son is proud to be a 9 y/o Uncle. :P
But seriously, after 18 months, I'd say it's time to start having some testing done. :-?
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

I am a woman and I can not stand reading this stuff.
Kitty - I love you to death and I hope this doesn't come across wrong.

The title of the thread indicates that it's probably a "ladies only" subject. Every one of us is different and just because people have no problems discussing normal body functions doesn't make them wrong or bad. Not any more than your issues with the thread makes you a prude. I know when I first started showing signs of menopause I really needed someone to talk to about what was going on with my life and all the "women" figures in my life that would have the answers were unfortunately dead. Personally I see no problem with it and can see a place for it because we're already comfortable with each other as friends. I've been to other health related boards - some of them are really intimidating and the posters there very rude and unfriendly.
i so relate because the only person i could talk to about it for the first 5 years was my m-i-l. that was ok but i didn't have and still don't have friends who are going through the same thing. i started early and i'm 8 years into it. anytime i can find someone who is experiencing these symptoms i find it helpful. other women can give suggestions that i might not know about..or it's just plain good to air out frustrations to someone who can relate.
it all boils down to whatever one is comfortable with. i don't view going through men-on-pause (that's what my m-i-l calls it !! ) that personal because it's a natural aging process. there are other things i definitely wouldn't post on here that i find extremely personal.
just my 2 cents.
through it and done years ago after 3 summers of unbearable hot flashes. finally gave in and took Prempro (before the controversy) and it worked instantly!!! In retrospect, no regrets about that decision .

Sounds like us. Jim is 18, Mollie is 9. We have a baby angel in between...and another that we only made to about 9 weeks with. It's heartbreaking and gut wrenching but I PROMISE you, when I look into Mollie's little gray eyes, I'd do it all over again. I have 2 only children. Mollie, in turn, has 3 parents. And it's kinda nice. Jim is her other guardian for school and girl scouts. But, until you are holding your own, people saying "relax and it'll happen" will make you want to punch them. Get the tests run. He is easier to test and it's an quick answer. If it is you, there are SO many things that can be done these days.

One of my questions about the whole thread topic was "I wonder if taking SO MANY HORMONES to get pregnant could lead to an earlier onset for her?" Maybe not...dunno. Kinda like taking Brethine with both to stop labor (took it for 8 weeks with each) had anything to do with them BOTH being asthmatic. Brethine is an asthma medication. Not only me but I have friends with 9 children in total. All Brethine labor stoppers...ALL ARE ASTHMATIC! Makes you wonder how the drugs we take to "help" do after the baby arrives. Again, to have them here, alive and healthy for the most part, I'd so it all over again.
"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)

That's an interesting question. I was worried about the effects the hormones would eventually have on ME, & haven't questioned what it may have done to my child.
Of course, I had a son...and he's "all boy", and while I'd encourage you to do a bit of research into the matter; I'd put my money on her starting young having to do more with growing up healthy, well fed in a modern civilization than anything else.

Well fed is a good point but I know back in the stone age when I was becoming a teenager it was very rare for anyone to start before 12 or 13, I wonder if all the hormones in our food these days makes a difference. Heck I see some of the kids in our theatre group and they already look 18 at 11, I almost feel bad for them, childhood is short enough as it is.

I think about that, too....hormones in meat and milk....not to mention all of the chemicals in food in general....

Even though I know the horse is already out of the barn I've started eating only organic milk (produced next door in NH so I'm FAIRLY sure it's really organic) And I'm buying all my meat locally from farms I know and it's all grass fed, antibiotic and hormone free. It's probably in my head but I swear I feel better - and I don't buy any prepackaged foods anymore, I used to LIVE on Lean Cuisines and those Weight Watcher meals and I've gone off them- same with anything with high fructose corn syrup. I'm getting batty in my old age I guess!!

Sorry - that was TOTALLY off topic!

Isn't it crazy how we spend so much of our time trying to NOT get pregnant and then have to work so hard at it once we think we're ready?

Since this web site is the only one I post on, or go to regularly, I am glad we can discuss subjects like this (without going into TOO much detail). I just wish, when I was going through TEN YEARS OF PERIMENOPAUSE with very heavy monthlies (that seriously ruined vacations, my son's ball game attendance, all kinds of life events) , that I could've been in a discussion about that. My stupid gynecologist kept telling me it was "just my age"....somehow I could not make him understand how heavy they were and I didn't really know any better to go to another gynecologist because I didn't know he DIDN'T UNDERSTAND how serious it was. I was anemic and kept getting turned down when I went to give blood and never made the connection. And I'm not a stupid person. Thank goodness menopause finally happened and there is NO problem. Now the calendar is not my enemy. It's such a relief.
