My wife and I are starting to think about vacation next summer. We have talked about maybe spending some time around Charleston and Savannah. Where are some other places on the East Coast have you guys been to and would strongly recommend?

I did a vaction a few years ago in the NE with my family. Flew into Boston, went out to Nantucket, went up to Bar Harbor. It was one of the best vacations we ever went on.

It’s the Golden Isles of Georgia, and I feel like I’m at home-
Safe refuse from those winters cold and harsh.
So many pleasant memories meander through my mind
Like the tidal creeks just winding through the marsh.
Then it’s on to Fernandina for a round of pirate’s punch.
Oh, the Palace is such a fine saloon.
Then I cross the Bridge of Lions and I see the Conch House Lounge.
No better place to spend the afternoon.

If you just like the beach (surf, fish, tan, relax) then the Outer Banks of NC are the cat's pajamas. There is not much to do, but that's the whole point.
If you want more of a carnival atmosphere, Ocean City MD is a zoo-like experience, plus all of the above (surf, fish, etc). While in MD you can also visit Annapolis/Baltimore (about 2.5 hrs from OC MD).
In either case, the ocean water is very swimmable and the sun is warm (May - Sept).

I will probably get ragged on about this...BUT... Personally, I love Myrtle Beach. It does get a little touristy but there is tons of stuff to do there. You can do a lot or nothing at all...there's a lot of shows, shopping. If you go off the beaten path you can find some neat places to check out..Murrell's Inlet is a neat place. And of course my all time favorite place to visit down there...Margaritaville!!!

Theres nothing wrong with Myrtle , actually i've lived in Murrells Inlet for 15 years and avoid the place like the plague (at least in the summer time). It is a great place for a family vacation and there is alot to do. The outer banks are great but not much to do for a family, we go every year. Charleston is nice Folly Beach, Isle of Plams etc... Some of the FLorida beaches are good also, my parents live in Ormond Beach, we just came back from seeing them it was nice, close to Daytona.

Funny you mentioned the East Coast next summer.....my wife has been talking about traveling the East Coast next summer as well.....of course when I try to pin her down on WHERE EXACTLY on the East Coast she's talking about she doesn't have time to give me an answer!!

But, I kinda think we're looking more along the coast of Maine...Bay of Fundy....maybe Massachusetts.....that neck of the woods

Sounds like your idea of East Coast is Virginia/Carolina's/Georgia.
Had thought about the Outer Banks last year but it got into fall before we could get away so we opted for the Smokies instead.

Fly into Providence. Go to Block Island for a few days. Then maybe hit Newport, The Cape, Vineyard, or Nantckett. Block Island is a special spot.

The Isle of Palms is nice and low key. I love Wrightsville Beach in NC. Sunset Beach is one of the great little beach towns with its swinging bridge to get in and out. I also really like Chincoteague. Quiet, quaint and a nice state park beach.

I was just there in Sept -loved it & now everyone wants to go there again next year -go in off season there are a million golf courses to choose from and it is not crowded -and yes I loved Margaritaville too!!

if you like museums, a trip to washington dc and the smithsonian is a must do.
