going to Philly today, looking for high quality cheesesteak
I'm going up to the Who concert tomorrow, and leaving really early, as Eagles, World Series, and Who fans will collide in a cataclysm the likes of which has never been seen on I-95 in Philly. Anyway, while I've been to Philly quite a few times in my life, I've never really done the cheesesteak search. I have heard that Geno's is #1 in sales, but haven't heard the greatest reviews on their product. I'm looking for a real deal cheesesteak, that doesn't take me more than a few miles the Wachovia Center. Suggestions please.

If you are still around:
1) Jim's Steaks is on 4th and South Streets and you can get a beer there as well. Also, lots of little bars and shops along South if you are so inclined. They use the chopped up meat and top with your choice of cheese and/or onions.
2) Geno's - 9th and Passyunk they do not chop the meat using whole thin slices of ribeye steak
3) Pat's King of Steaks - just across from Geno's (you could try both if you are hungry).
NOTE: Ordering properly is important. You name the cheese you want followed by the words "wit" or "witout" (this is your onion choice).
So "American wit" will get you a cheesesteak with American cheese and onions. "Whiz witout" will get you a cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz adn no onions.
Good luck.

Between Jim's, Pat's, and Geno's, I like Jim's, except that the lines are a mile long.
I like Pat's and Geno's because not only do they make great chessesteaks, they both do a lot of charity things for the community. Although the two have a very public and very bitter feud, I'm told by some friends who know about these things that the families who own them are actually friends.
You might also want to check out Tony Luke's, on Oregon Ave, just a couple of blocks from where the concert er, was (just file this for the next concert).
