Just a thought. The first 2 threads would probably be fine.
Honestly, I disagree.
If people of differing viewpoints are segregated to their own separate threads, how do we expect unity to occur? [smilie=huh-ani.gif]
People with different viewpoints can go into the negative thread to argue.

The creators of this thread just wanted it to be for congratulations.

I created a thread yesterday for people to go complain away on the suggestion of several other members and even a moderator. Unfortunately, it was deemed unnecessary to keep the arguing sides apart and it was locked not long after it was created.

Partisanship will not end. After four years there will still be Democrats and Republicans with sharp differences. I don't think anyone, Obama included, is questioning that.

But I hope that Obama, and especially Pelosi and Reid realize that the reasons why Democrats are in power in Congress, and a good reason why Obama was elected are NOT because the country suddenly made a far left turn and now support Pelosi-type liberals. Democrats are in power because of the "blue-dog" moderate Democrats that have been elected in 2006 and again in 2008. They cannot govern from the far left because then the 2010 midterm elections will be a repeat of 1994 and the Republicans will significantly cut into the majorities or even retake the chambers (though I'm not sure it could be done in 1 election). If Democrats want to hold power for the next four years and beyond, they have to govern from the center (and certainly no further left than the blue dogs).

Well, in that case, I'll ask this question here;

All of those people who swore they would move to Canada if Barack Obama was elected....How's the weather up there, eh?

Only if Alec Baldwin can tell me how the weather is where he went after he said he would leave if George Bush was elected...BTW, I did not make such a promise, in part because I remember how stupid Baldwin looked after Bush won and he went nowhere. Funny how a little cash at 30 Rock changed his mind.

?? I missed that..

But I asked this separation of threads question as a poll weeks ago, most folks said no.

I am one of the people he said that he needs to gain my trust. I vow to be open minded and allow him a chance to win my trust. I vow to put my Republician hat in the closet till further notice. The earning of trust begins now....Barak Obama is on the clock. :o 8) :-?

Like every other red blooded male from Massachusetts, I go to Canada for cheap Molson, strippers, and hockey. The weather is always fine in that regard.

Think this thread is bad....the other Obama election thread is worse...and the worst posts are from those that voted for Obama.....they supported a man who said he wanted to unite the country. In his acceptance speech he vowed to work towards gaining acceptance from those who didn't vote for him. Too bad those who supported him can't do the same.
As someone who didn't vote Obama, I have tried to be optimistic, have an open mind, and have even asked others who left angry posts to do the same. Why bother? It's obvious it's all BS. How can Obama succeed when his supporters don't even buy into it?
I'm beginning to think these political threads are going to ruin BN with all the divisive posts.

I tried to forget the stuff that went on in this thread yesterday. It was horrible some of the stuff that was said.

I am one of those people that voted for Obama. I have made a few jokes at some of the stuff coming out about Gov. Palin. It's a sad atempt at being a stand up comic. It was a long hard campaign for everyone and it took it's toll. I find humor in stupid stuff in this election. You have to or you make yourself crazy. I think the stuff that is coming out from the McCain camp about Govenor Palin is pretty sad if it's all true, at the same time pretty humorous.

yet something you, as an Obama supporter find humorous may be offensive to someone who voted McCain. The tone of the other thread was as disheartening to me as the posts yesterday by the so called 'right wing extremists" :(

I think there is a big difference in someone cracking a joke at a vice presidential canidate who has been the target of more then a few people in this country and someone spewing their hateful right wing opinions.

I have absolutely nothing against John McCain. He proved the other night that he is every bit the great American that people make him out to be. The more that comes out about Gov. Palin, the less I like her. And if the stories that are coming out are true, shame on her.

I see no difference, both incite hate and discontent....the question is...is Obama's call for change real, or just a change of the name of the President?

I think his call for change was real. Not something to get elected. America is supposed to be for everyone and right now it's not.

I think right wing extremism is a lot more different then cracking a joke over a vice presidential candiate who was in clearly over her snowshoes. One breeds hate, the other if you choose to laugh-then please do so, if you don't find it funny, then ignore it.

What happened in this particular thread yesterday was something I had never expierenced before, I really never hope to again. It was disgusting, it was hateful, and it was evil. I bet if John McCain had seen those people that voted for him and were supporters of him writing that crap. I bet he would have distanced himself from them. Because that's not who he is or what he stands for.

I tell you what C-Dawg. I have no idea of who you are or what your beliefs are. If you were offended. I am sorry. It was not my intention. I hope that makes you happier.

Funny thing, I voted Republican in every presidential election until Tuesday night.

I'm done with the polticial threads....

neither are the Political threads anymore with all the negative posts and bashing going on.

I'm not a right wing extremist. if anything, I've tried to be open minded and call on others who didn't vote for Obama to have an open mind and give him an chance. But how can you tell the right wing extremist to ignore your posts but not be expected to do the same to their posts? Either both sides agree to rules, or it's a free for all, and free speech for all.

After listening to Obama's acceptance speech, i wonder if he'd think the same reading the posts bashing Palin. He said in his speech he wanted to work toward gaining acceptance from those that didn't vote for him. I can't see how the tone of those posts help.

I accept your apology, and don't mean to make you the bad guy. I am just trying to get both sides to play fair. I did not vote for Obama, yet I have " gotten on board" and want to see him succeed, and don't see bashing or negative posts from either side helping.
My biggest fear, and I know I'm not alone in this fear, is that the political threads will tear BN apart. From what I've heard, that's what happened at Church Of Buffett, another Buffett site. The negative vibes that come from them seep into other threads. I love this site and would hate to see it gone. So, it's nothing personal, I'm just trying to make BN a better place for everyone.

Again you're sharper than this. Partisanship will never end . . . ever. Clearly what he is saying is party domination and bull headedness. This will prove to be tough in a Dem House and Senate but . . . .

Prior to 2006 the Reps ran Congress and conducted themselves as a secret society working deals in back rooms and steamrolling the Dems. Now the Dems have done it . . . . Now Obama wants everyone to work for the common good and end their far left OR right party agendas.

What are you the guy at the carnvial? I don't presume to infer what people mean - I go by what they say. Considering this (and the Embassy comment; as well as two new bases by 2012 which is information anyone can look up and has been presented in the news so the United States will be in Iraq for some time despite what our President said during his campaign) very clear and direct comment was not phrased in any way metaphorical but designed to gain votes I call it a lie. Or an exaggeration. Obama is pretty good speaker - he should've and could've been more clear. I know he never thought he would end partisanship or leave Iraq - but he said it. In fact: if you have a minute go to youtube and type in Obama voters and you will see what people believe from he said during his campaign if you don't believe me. It is quite scary how easily people can be manipulated.
